Tonight, my school ran a charity concert for cancer research. My friend's band were playing Rammstein, and obviously a few people started moshing.
The school decided to kick the band out (and one of the members was in another band playing that night) for 'inciting riots.'

Do you think the school was right to do this? And has anything like this happened to you?

No it's not right.

Moshing is a form of dancing. The people running that school were obviously too ignorant to know that, and made a pretty ignorant decision.

I usually associate dancing with at least some skill. slamming into one another doesn't take any.

it's pretty impossible to decide if the school was right or not without any information on venue and crowd size.

There is no right or wrong to this situation, all I see is some strict guidance and possible injuries prevented while also angering students.

Edit: Okay so apparently I didn't know what moshing was in the more standard term, and after looking into it I repeal my initial statement as thus:

It was overkill to kick the band, but intervention of some kind to some measure was necessary, so they went a pretty safe route in stopping the source directly.

Yeah, moshing isn't dancing. It's bumping into other people rather vigorously.

You want to know the last time I 'moshed'? When I was 10.

The school has health and safety to worry about, and moshing has a very real risk of someone getting injured.

While I don't agree with kicking the band out, I must say that Moshing at a school function would definitely be unacceptable.

There's a time and place for moshing and I highly doubt a charity drive would be one of them.

I agree here. However the guys organizing should have given the line-outs when they invited the bands, not in the middle of a performance.

Agreed. How annoyed would parents etc be if half a dozen kids(?) came home with injuries?
Although i think there would have been a more agreeable way to deal with it rather than kicking the band off.

Oh come on, don't be like that. I mean, it's a pseudo-Rammstein concert, for chrissake, what were they expecting them to do? Politely nod their heads to the rythm, while smiling and sipping cups of tea, discussing the Economy?! And why throw out the band, of all people? Throw out the guys moshing, at least. I know that doesn't go to the root of "the problem", but if you're going to do something, then have a bit of decency, at least... I think this is wrong (if that weren't obvious already), and the teachers are bunch of pretentious gits for doing that. What does it matter if it's a charity concert; if they're playing Rammstein than that's all you should expect, and rightfuly so! Good show!

No way, if fans like the music enough to mosh, let them. Moshing doesn't anyone who doesn't chose to do it and moshing generally has a sort of code of chivalry. Seriously, people at metal shows have always turned out to be gentlemen. It's an enjoyable way to experience the music, but if that WAS a rule it would have been nice if the band was warned beforehand.
But yeah, my stand is no harm no foul.

The facts don't really care about your subjective associations. Moshing is a legitimate form of dancing whether you like it or not.

Wrong to kick the band out. There are clear differences between moshing and rioting. Moshing typically doesn't involve swearing at each other, targeting and assaulting specific people and stealing things.

But what has past has past. Too bad though.

Yet again ignorant people not taking the time to realize that moshing is not "rioting." If the students started moshing on their own then that's their own decision, leave the band out of it. Not to mention they were playing Rammstein! Who wouldn't want to mosh to Rammstein?!!
