Someone I know tells me that Australia is not that great of a place to live, cause of the number of bugs. She told me that every night you go to bed, you have to check the bed for insects and all kinds of disgusting stuff. Even in the big cities. Is this true? Is Australia so bug-infested?

Naw, it's the drop-bears that you gotta worry about, although some say that putting vegemite on your head will dissuade them from ravaging your face.

I have heard that women outnumber men in australia, so all the local men treat women like crap.

Drop Bears?
Hm. So that's why your customs officers are so paranoid, you don't want another 'incident'.

I've seen videos about some kinda frog that invaded Australia. I'd have to buy 26 snakes and train them to kill frogs before I ever move to Australia.

Moving along, that rule about checking for bugs is the same as any of the 'safety' rules, such as washing your hands before putting contact lenses in, and testing your fire-alarm every week. No-one does them, but the fact that there is a rule in the first place shows that it is a significant risk.

EDIT - Removed unnecessary arseholisms. Check me out without my hayfever medication.

Putting vegemite on your head will dissuade a lot more than just bugs.

When I went the only bugs we had to worry about were bed bugs and you shouldn't have to worry so much about them as long as you don't pass out in chairs at a hospice. I suppose that's true every where you go.

There's less bugs inside your house in Austraillia than in England, it's hot enough outside for them so they have no need to come in. I spent some time in Austraillia a while back and spiders are really nothing to be worried about.

I wont suggest Australia " IF" and that's a major if you are really really squeamish about venomous insects, arachnids, and other animals...

That is to say Australia is home to some of the most venomous spiders, and most of the most venomous snakes in the world like Belcher's Sea Snake " most venomous in the world" North-West Australian Taipan ( actually taipans rank second in the venom count), Tiger Snake, and quite a few others...

NOW.. as I said IF you are paranoid about things like that and ...well dare I say a careless idiot when it comes to wildlife and common sense ( as in...don't go face to face with a taipan and start screaming at him and poking him with a stick) then you may not be looking at Australia as a ideal home.

but then again....they don't have any more or any less nasty critters than any other place can potentially have...so being there is not better or worse than any other place in that way...look at being in the U.S...there are some super massive toxic snakes, and spiders there too like the widow, recluse, fire ants, rattlers, copperheads, coral etc etc.

long story short...Australia is fine, it's as safe, and as dangerous as any other place.....

except again for the drop bears, and Yowie :p

Yes everyone rides kangaroos to work, drop bears regularly eat tourists and all Australian women are extremely good looking...
/sarcasm off
Never heard of or know anyone that checks their bed at night for bugs.
