I usually don't watch E3, but I've always been aware of it and follow it online, but not so much this year. I had completely forgotten about E3 until I watched The Jimquisition. Even when I look up E3 nothing really seems to stand out besides Assassin's Creed 3 and the jokes about E3 turning into MTV. Did E3 change or did I just stop caring as much as I used to?

I think gaming's just changed. Jim is pretty dead on about what E3 reflected about the AAA industry.

I looked to Nintendo to deliver me from the militaristic gun-toting violence, but they barely managed it. So yeah, while I'm excited for a lot of things I saw at E3, it was pretty meh.

Meh. Perfect word to describe it. There were only a few games that seemed interesting, but overall, the show felt so lacking and dead this year. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the past few E3's have been really underwhelming.

B-but those backgrounds in Mario Wii U are so detailed like they've never been before in a NSMB!!! THAT'S NEW, RIGHT?!

Gah...I just wanted Metroid, Pikmin, Retro's 3D project and 3D Mario...That would have been plenty...

I didn't watch the actual press conferences, but there were a fair number of games on offer that I'm interested in.

Dishonoured, Last of Us, Tomb Raider, X-COM, Beyond:Two Souls, Metro: Last Light, Far Cry 3, Watch Dogs, Quantum Conundrum.

So I'm not complaining.

NO, never! She's just in hiding!

I refuse to believe Team Ninja killed Samus "Fucking" Aran! BELIEVE, DAMMIT!

On the subject of Samus, if the Retro Studios game turns out to be Starfox, I'll definitely be disappointed...

Yea man, it was pretty meh...

That's good for me though, a lot of great games came out last year that I didn't get to play. I have time to catch up.

There were some good games getting shown, but they don't get as much press obviously as the hugely popular games. For instance, Dragon Commander is really interesting but even though it's got a lot of coverage compared to other Larian games it's still not very well known.

I cant remember what I read, but someone remarked that it was odd that DLC was in focus during some of the E3 presentations; like they were more interested in sales- and I use the word sales in the most corporate sense- rather than just making good vidya games that sell well.

Has anyone ever worked in sales? I mean real sales, where you get a desk and a phone and incentives?

It's not enough to get someone to buy your product, you have to cross sell them the overdraft protection, paint protection package, accidental damage insurance, extended warranty, accessories, car charger, and the 3rd one at 50% off if you buy 2...

That's what this year's E3 looked like to me, a big sales penis, dropping small change in the hopes I'd bend over to pick something up.

I heard this year's E3 described like this.

Last year's E3 was like a huge party, and this year's E3 was like the hangover the next day.

It was 'meh', I mean, there are some really cool new games coming out but it was pretty much over shadowed by the sequels and the bigger games.

Well, so long as the cover-based combat isn't too sloppy or employed where it doesn't make sense (Humans with guns? Makes sense. Slashers? Doesn't make sense) then it shouldn't be too bad.

And I have never heard of this 'other metroid' game, so clearly it doesn't exist. Yeah, it doesn't exist... that's it...
random question...how long was the first dead space? I mean back when Dead space 2 was released I worried it may have been a little short due to multiplayer..and at around 8-9 hours it is kind of a short game (even though it was literally 1 year and a half before I finished it) I'm wondering what the comparison to Dead space 1 is

and your right....there is no metroid here..move along

Yeah.

E3 was done really badly this year.

Of the five press conferences, only two of them (Ubisoft and Sony) were actually well structured. Everybody else was just one long bore fest of shooters, motion controls, shooters cell phone connectivity, shooters, Reggie making himself look like an idiot, New Super Mario Bros unoriginality, and Usher.

The presentation of the individual games at booths (what little I have seen of it, anyway) wasn't very interesting either.

What is even sadder is that it wasn't bad in a good way. It wasn't like 2010 where everybody but Nintendo just failed so utterly it was hilarious (need a good laugh/the example of the worse handled press conference in history, look up the disaster that was Konami). It was just dull, it was boring, it just made me not care. Being boring is the worst kind of horrible you can be.

I think Dead Space 1 was about 10-15ish hours long - I do know it took longer to finish then Dead Space 2, but I kinda attributed that to the constant back-forthing. Dead Space 2 was a lot more linear and faster paced, so that might have attributed to the shorter playtime. Maybe the Multiplayer had something to do with it too? I don't really know - the multiplayer felt a bit 'rushed' for me, kinda like it was tacked on while they finished the Single-Player.
yeah, I do vaugly remember the back tracking thing

well..we'll see

Eh, about the same as every year really, about a dozen games I'm genuinely interested in, and the rest is boring. So not really any different to the previous few years, at least for me anyway.

Plus the lack of any new real hardware (besides the WiiU which we saw last year anyway) kills the buzz a bit, maybe next year if the other big two announce new consoles, then E3 will be more exciting for those who found it lacking this year. Since the new generation usually brings some fresh IP to the mix.

Plus E3 is really more about the media than anything, PAX Prime is where you see a lot more in the way of gameplay demos, and its less about the spectacle.

I'm more excited about more games this year than I can remember for an E3 for a while. And it's games I wasn't expecting either.

I mean The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls and Tomb Raider all look like they're pushing into new areas of games. In existence there are almost 0 games without a fairly typical videogamey plot. Even Planescape and KotoR 2 are very 'chosen one, save the day' games, with some philosophy but not so much the quiet character story.

And all of a sudden we have 2.5 games exploring small painful character dramas? Awesome stuff. And then we have Quantum Conudrum etc

I think the problem that people feel they have with this E3, is that the two big things are the Wii U and Assassins Creed 3. The Wii U everyone has said is hard to get until you actually play the games and Assassins Creed 3 looks good, except everything surprising about it was revealed before E3.

Then I'd say Far Cry 3 was what brought most of the rage on E3 this year. The focus on sex and violence was pretty in people's faces, and when you combine that with Assassins Creed slow moness it becomes too much. They didn't show anything cool about Far Cry and it made it feel bad.

Hitman Absolution sounds fantastic from the previews but completely screwed their chance of getting positive PR out of it by masking the extremely adapative gameplay with the stupid controversy.

I don't think it was a bad E3 and they showed some really good games, even the games that were 'bad' were pretty solid. No Genji here.

Maybe there was nothing surprising, and nothing mainstream surprising. At the back of peoples heads was the idea of new console reveals and we had a glut of new/rebooted shooter IPs to get excited about last year and didn't have hat this year. This year felt smaller, whereas last year was a cluster mess.

E3 has pretty much been a dud. I was looking forward to maybe a new Sengoku Basara, or a showcase of The Last Story, or finally a Wii version of Resident Evil 5 or Dead Rising 2 like I've always wanted. I guess Capcom is too busy for that right now.
Why would they show The Last Story when it's already out (cue evil british laugh bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa twirls moustache)

OT: E3, it had some highlights this year but only 5 games really grabbed my attention this year

South Park: The Stick of Truth
The Last of Us
Beyond: Two Souls
Pikmin 3
and
Watch Dogs

also Agni's Philosophy was a pretty cool tech demo...also zombie Reggie!

so yeah.
