I stopped playing WoW (roughly) about a week after hitting 85 (2 weeks after release), a few events in real life and overall annoyance at my internet provider being so slow i lagged in dungeons on minimum graphics...
but a few of my friends have started playing again,
I'm still in a great guild on my main of which i was a core raider (downing all WoTLK content)
I've heard a few bad things about WoW from some old friends on the game,

Like: the lag is getting beyond a joke, the game has become boring etc

asking all the WoW players out there, Is WoW worth starting again?

since PSN is down so i can't play Mortal Kombat online now -,-

I would say no. But I didn't pick up cataclysm.

And I started in like... 2005. So I played a lot of WoW growing up meaning that some of the magic has died for me as I've grown up (still growing up, am only 20).

But if you have a good group to play with, anything can be tolerable. I mean, I hate surf maps (on CS:S) but I played them because that's what my mates were doing and it was fun to play with friends.

I quit playing WoW about two years ago, not because it wasn't any fun per se but rather it just was not possible to invest the time needed anymore.

In my opinion, WoW is still the best thing out on the market. They have the biggest team and the most cash to drive the innovation process. I've played other MMOs, and the ones that were interesting were just clones of WoW. They all lack WoW's charm and intuitive design. That's my personal opinion anyway. There are tons of people who don't like WoW cause it's the "Cool" thing to do cause they're "out there on the edge of gaming" or some BS. They can play their subpar games if that tickles their fancy. For me, If I had the time, I'd probably pull WoW back on like an old T-Shirt.

If you have an interest in raiding: Go for it.

If you mainly enjoyed playing different classes and gearing them in a fast and easy way, as it was in wotlk, then don't come back. That type of content is dead unless you have a guild designed for it or a hight tolerance for anger.

Right now if you like MMORPG games and the overall experience, WoW is the best one out there. It has the most content, the highest general quality, and the biggest player base. Of course like anything, you can get burned out on it.

Other MMORPGs have come up with a lot of neat ideas, but most of them fall considerably short of the rising bar set by WoW as it developed, content, and the motivation to keep playing and paying subscription fees being a big issue for most would-be MMO juggernauts.

"Old Republic Online" is a potential rival for WoW, but it's not here yet. It was supposed to have a release date annouced this month, but here we are with April almost over with, and no word. Given the needs for advertising and everything it seems increasingly unlikely that the game will be out before the end of the year, never mind making a summer release (which means I feel sorry for kids who wanted to spend their summer vacation with this game).

Simply put WoW is worth playing if your not burned out on it, and you like that type of game. Of course it can also be said that it's arguably the only game in town that is liable to actually support a long-term MMO time investment since you can typically max out other games of the type and see just about everything within a month, and the amount of endgame content is usually very limited compared to what WoW has leading to very rapid burn out at that point.

I was absent from WoW for about a year and a half, after doing quite extensive raiding in BC and some entry-level stuff in WotLK, then came back to try out Catalysm. I didn't even stay with it through the new areas.
Don't get me wrong, it's got great art design and some awesome and fun ideas.
But for all their talk about making things more cinematic, there's still so much damn grind in it. It's just better concealed now.

Though if you still have a good guild, go ahead and try it, it's probably a lot more tolerable with a bunch of people you know.

Yeah I say go for it.

Patch 4.1 is coming out today (servers are down right now in fact), with actually not that much in it, basically some more 5-mans.

I've been doing little outside raids myself lately, but I'll probably do some more now.

To keep you online for 24 hours sending packets constantly it costs blizzard $0.05 a day you pay $0.50 to play.

I played WoW and if your a person who enjoys having a second job then go ahead but other then that

Game play is repetitive
PvP is repetitive
PvE is repetitive
The people playing remind me of adults with the mentality of 15 year olds.

I played it and every aspect to me was repetitive and forced, on the other hand if your planning on playing an MMO just play WoW its the best

Yes, if you haven't already, go back and create an alt to experience the 1-60 content, which is very good now.

Just wait one more year for guild wars 2 to come out. WoW is a grindfest wich fools you into thinking it's fun.

No...go play a more unique MMO...dunno which one though...
Yes, if there was one around, I might suggest it.

Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 are about the only high-profile ones I know of.

I quit WoW after Cata came out. Before I was just a casual player player with friends I had met in game. Doing raids, instances and quests with them was all for fun. But once Cata came out the game became almost unplayable to casual players. The quests could still be done, but the instances and raids were on a level that most causal players would not have a chance of completing. You need the higher end gear to complete them and even if you want to get into hardcore raiding, it was pretty much impossible to get into a guild

My opinion is to wait for Old republic or guild wars 2, whichever you prefer.
