What the hell is wrong with people?
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2011/03/22/in.america.unwelcome.protest.cnn

Are Americans really so stupid as to think that every single muslim is a violent individual? Why is it that people in the US go out of their way to say that they can say any xenophobic bullshit they want because of the first ammendment, yet don't think for a second that the first ammendment allows people to practice religion freely? Is there any good reason we all can't just learn to tolerate each other?

Editz: Okay, im sorry, im not trying to group all americans into this, just these idiots and who ever else is like this in the United States.

No, Americans aren't stupid enough to think that.

Admittedly, a handful are certainly stupid enough to think that but you get people like that in every country regardless. Britain isn't exactly innocent of doing something like this either.

Well Muslims are trying to kill us... didn't you know? Jesus told president Bush to kill them all and even though that unamerican-communist-fascist-muslim-jewish Obama is in office, we still keep the cause a going. /Sarcasm

Serisously?!! Why does anyone think that way! But you cannot deny that some people do think that way.

Keep in mind that what's reported on isn't usually commonplace, which is why it gets reported on. Controversy sells.

That said, goddam it people, this behaviour comes up way too much for my liking...

In the defense of US citizens, a bunch were protesting against the loonies.

Also, freedom of speech doesn't just apply when you don't think the person is completely wrong, which has pros and cons.

Please note that you are generalizing, as not every American is like that, but there is an outspoken minority.

Are you really stupid enough to think that CNN accurately sampled the entirety of America rather than cherry picking a bunch of xenophobic nutjobs?

There are stupid people of any race nationality or religion. It's not just Americans and Islam. Fundamentalism is everywhere and because they make the most noise, they get the most press. It's easy to pigeonhole a mass of people when you see dumb people doing dumb things, but trust me, I'm an American and I'm happy to say I'm not that ignorant.

I could rant to, anyone could, on how stupid it is, but that is all this thread is going to be then. Everyone saying "OMG that's so stupid man how could they?!". So why bother? I don't associate with said stupidheads in my life and if I ever met anyone like that they would not leave our encounter feeling well.

So, in conclusion, I will just contribute to the thread by saying what everyone will say anyways.

OMG that's so stupid! Why do people think like this?! I don't get it! It's so stupid! Grr grr!

I would take that to offense, but i A. Agree with you and B. Fully realize this is the internet. Its just that i get angry when even the tiny groups pull shit like this. Is it cherrypicking? Of course. Do these people still exist? Yes.

I'm English, so I guess I can't talk from experience, but I very much doubt that every single American thinks that. Can't you see how hypocritical you're being? You complain about an unfair stereotype then you go and accuse every single American of being ignorant. You're just as bad as them, maybe even more so because you have this twisted little belief that you're better than them.
I'd be surprised if the people protesting didn't think they were better than the Muslims. Secondly, there wasn't the accusation that the US citizens were trying to murder the poster. And, this is in response to actual evidence of the accusation.

Otherwise, yes, this is a big generalisation...having said that, the US propaganda was worth at least 2 wars recently, there must be some truth the complaint against it.

...that's kinda the thing about news... if you're watching it, it's been sensationalized. The interviews in the video you linked are most likely cherry-picked from hundreds of less extreme views.
Another thing about American news specifically... media has been bullshitting our people into believing they're experts in everything for a good three decades (so my entire life, at least). Most Americans aren't qualified to hold an informed opinion of any Muslim... because most Americans have never gotten to know one.

Britain isn't exactly clean of this sort of behaviour itself so i couldn't say anything without being hypocritical
what i will say is that it mainly seems to be christians judging from that video and we know how they'd have an interest in keeping the christian and muslim societies seperate

and i'm sure it's just a handful of individuals who oppose muslims living in their neighborhood
and that a whole lot of Americans who live in that town who weren't represented in that video are open-minded,free thinking, accepting people and have no problem whatsoever with the propsed building

Exactly. It shames me that people are still acting like this, but it is a very small number of us that think this way. Don't judge the crowd based on the outspoken individual.

Islamophobia isn't exclusive to America, unfortunately :-/

Maybe it's more noticeable in the US, but it's a problem that's starting to grow all over the world. Which is pretty much sh*t :(

Yes, they exist. Everywhere.

A google search turned those three up on the first page.

There's apparently even an organized group over in the UK dedicated just to Muslims.

If you're mad about them, be mad about them everywhere, not specifically over here.
