I had Time Warner, which was extremely fast but also unreliable and went down constantly. Then I switched to Verizon, which has dial up speeds but stays up 24/7. Every ISP I try completely blows, anyone know a better ISP that's available in the California/Los Angeles area?

Do verizon not have a more expensive yet faster option? Try comcast, they're supposedly pretty good.

In the UK it depends on where you live, even in the same city. A densly poplated part of a city will get higher speeds that a more sparsely populated area.

Well he said in LA/cali and I'm going to assume he's not willing to move simply for faster internet, otherwise he'd already be in korea.

Does Verizon not offer FIOS in your area? That's amazing speed-wise. Reliability should be high too.

If you get Comcast, try them.

They've done great for me.

Although, they are mostly East Coast, iirc.

where i live in the uk (Kingston uponn Hull) we can have only 1 isp and were the only place in the sodding country to be in this situation... they charge us what they like for a connection that is far less then what other major isp's would provide...

I know he said that, I would have thought there'd be a similar trend in the US.

ur doing it wrong.

time warner sucks because they are capping their net.

comcast sucks. because they are capping it as well at 250 GBs

verizon atm is the only isp that has fiber. AKA best isp in america. i dont know why u have dial-up from verizon, ask about FIOS thats their fiber service.

I use Cox, which I've rarely had a problem with. Any networking problem I've had was caused by our old router.

Comcast has been great as long as I've had it. I can't believe that Verizon has been reliable for you... there were weeks at a time when it would go down and I wouldn't have phone or internet service.

I don't have dial up, the internet is shit to the point where it's comparable to dial up. And FIOS isn't available in my area.

Comcast will be great, but you'll pay out the wazoo for it. Qwest is a pretty good, but I'm not sure they do California. I know they do Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

We just switched to U-Verse recently, got a 6Mbit connection for a paltry $5 a month more than the 3Mbit connection would have cost us. No complaints so far!

Availability really depends on how the fiber runs are in your neck of the woods though.
