Hello Escapist.

Today I bought the hard copy of Fallout 3, Game of the year edition.
I installed disc one, then I tested it and played it for a little while.
What I then did, was close Fallout 3 and installed disc two. I had the initial error many had where it did not automatically pop-up when inserted but I manually ran the disc.

My problems begin after that installation.

I put back in disc one and hit "Play game" and immediately an error pops up which reads: The ordinal 5360 could not be located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll. Then the standard "Program has stopped working" Vista window appears.

So, how did I mess it up?
How do I go about mending it?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Edit: Clearly the problem was in my processing of installing disc 2, considering that's when it happened. I did get impatient when I had no knowledge of the issue and ejected the disc (usually a very bad idea when something is running, don't do that) and a window came up that said ({Word I forget} is not ready).

Well it seems the problem you have is a nasty virus. This virus, called Vista likes to make everything not work. Also try a fresh re-install if all else fails.

EDIT: Well after seeing your edit I would just go for a fresh install.

You *****! I read You have a nasty virus and thought (Oh shit, he must know his stuff) then read the rest.
Ass.

EDIT: I am going to do the re-install though.

Well, you could wipe it from your computer and start over, sometimes flukes happen with that stuff. If that doesn't work, install Disc 1 and immediately after Disc 2, don't go playing around on it.

EDIT: While you're at it, install Windows 7 as well.

I am trying a re-install now, but if anybody has any other ideas as to where I went wrong I'd love hearing them.

You could try downloading a new copy of xlive.dll and replacing the one on your computer. Reinstalling will do the same so no big problems.

That's good, also, I don't know if wiping FO3 will wipe the DLC content I installed earlier and possibly messed up on. Therefore, I am going to have to play until out of the vault when the proof becomes apparent and if it isn't I'm going to have to do silliness again. Does anyone know of a way to check if the DLC is installed pre-actually initiating them?

Uninstalling F3 will remove the DLC. However since you got the GOTY edition you already have them there on the disk. When you uninstall uncheck the box that asks if you want to delete your saved games. Then when you reinstall you can just pick back up where you left off.

Double click the Fallout 3 icon and select the 'Data Files' option. It should list the DLC.
