Nothing major, but it's getting on my nerves.

I'm using an old edition of Microsoft office - Office XP 2002 edition in fact. Now, everytime I'm typing away at a word document, I will perodically quicksave with the old ctrl-s. Recently however, It has started randomly converting my documents to "read only" in the midst of me typing them. So when I come to save them, I need to give it a new file name in order to save it. Very annoying.

Does anybody have any ideas how to stop this?

Oh and Please don't just say "Use something else" or "Upgrade" without a legitimate reason. If you have no reason, please don't post because you're not being helpfull. Thanks

Alright, what seams to be happening, look through your document settings and see if your saving it as a "read-only" copy and fix it, Otherwise you should update to Windows Word 2007, The interface is pretty good but is hard to learn, But if all else fails, Reinstall the program and see if it works then.

Sounds odd. It could be that you're saving in a folder that you don't have permission to modify files in, but do have permission to create files (hooray XP's wonderous security policies).

You could, alternatively, uninstall Office 2002, run CCleaner to clear your preference settings that may or may not have been left in the registry, and re-install Office 2002.

Personally, I still use MS Office 2003, and I'm running Windows 7 x64. (They have a viewer/converter free from Microsoft for .docx files on their website, somewhere.)
