It actually exists! An Xbox 360 controller with symmetrical analog sticks

Not to be rude, but why on earth would you want symmetrical analog sticks? the current 360 controller is set up so that the most used controls fall directly under where you fingers naturally rest when you grip the controller. honestly, it's the primary reason why i don't get all of the games I want to get on my ps3, rather than just the ones that i have to get on it. the only real problem with the 360 controller is the crappy d-pad, but how often do we really use that thing in games any more anyway?

No I really do thing most people prefer the 360 pad.
If that were the case, Nintendo would have stuck with the layout they had for the GameCube.

I don't play on the xbox anymore since it red ringed. But when I did. It worked perfectly well for every game I had. And I played practically anything.
No way it worked perfectly well for Geometry Wars, and that's practically a 360 staple.

There isn't really a reason for me to get it, but it does look like a good solution. If only something would come out for the PS3 like that.
There are TONS of PS3 controllers with staggered analog sticks, and Saitek has made a similar controller for the PS2 and PS3 already.

There isn't really much available. Although there is something I've been looking at getting. It's an adapter that lets you play the wired 360 pad on it.
Where are you? Combining FutureShop, Best Buy, The Source, HMV, EB and such I've got a really good selection of controllers to choose from. I don't see how hard it would be to find one.

The 360 controller was good in theory, but in practice it doesn't work. It's where your thumb rests naturally when it's close to your hand, not where it has a central position to move in all directions.

It's not used anymore because it sucks donkey cock, both because of the bad design and because of the placement. The D-Pad design works well enough if it's where the analog stick normally is (see the Saturn Pad as an example), but it's got both bad design and bad placement going against it. If the D-Pad were actually good, games would rely on it more.

It shows how sad the state of Xbox 360 controllers is when the only pad with symmetrical analog sticks is one where the left stick and d-pad are reversible.

I'm happy though, my left wrist is starting to really hurt from dealing with the 360 pads, and it's nice to finally find a controller that solves the issue.
To preface my post, this isn't meant to be an attack or anything - I'm really just curious. Your wrist hurts from using a 360 controller? Any idea why?

I actually get serious cramps in my fingers from using any Playstation controller (from pre-Dual Shock to present), since I'm a tall dude with big hands. Then again, I was one of those guys who genuinely liked the original XBOX controllers [http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/benheck_xbox_controller1.jpg].

Dude...no. If the controller is causing you pain, it is not the controllers fault. Period. Ever.
Well, no hope of an intelligent discussion with you. Welcome to my ignore list.

Let's say you walk up a flight of stairs...ten flights of stairs. Would you complain that it was the stairs fault for being poorly designed?
Actually, yes he would. From all the conversations I've had with the guy, Migo's inclination with any issue is to blame anything other than himself. "I can't be having lag in Uno, I made sure my internet has twenty gigathings. It has to be Xbox Live's fault!"

He put me on his ignore list because I did something drastic like call him out. Only reason I'm even in this thread is because I find it entertaining to watch him argue ceaselessly about everything while not realizing that it is possible to make mistakes.

EDIT: Oh, look. He did the same thing to you. Welcome to the wonderful club of not having to put up with Migo anymore. :p

Yeah, I know exactly why. With the right stick that's lower and to the side, I can use both joints on my thumb to move it in all four directions, so there's much less movement necessary and it's more responsive. With the right analog stick, it's already at the end of my thumb, so it's a chore to push it further, which will give me blisters eventually, to move it left it's poor ergonomics and rather like trying to open or close a door right by the hinge. The only thing that's remotely tolerable is the 90 degree arc between right and down which moves closer to the position of the right analog stick.

The D-Pad is also a pain with the position, since it requires pressing down (I can't use both joints in the same way), so pressing right is very difficult since it's againt at the extent of where my thumb can go. Both the analog stick and d-pad placement are bad, and they're both on the same thumb. My wrist hurts right at the radius and I can feel it come in every time I have to move left on the analog stick.

Works most excellently for me. I love the design of the 360 controller. Can play for hours with no cramping. From day one, it felt natural to me. Must be in how you hold/use it. Or maybe you're just a smidge too small or too large for it...All I know is, after so much time with the 360 controller, I can't stand Sony's standard controllers. And there was a time when I thought the DS2 was the best thing ever...now, it feels tiny. And I notice extreme cramping in my wrists after just a couple hours, because of how I have to twist them slightly from neutral to get my index fingers on the shoulder buttons and my thumbs on the pads. Not so with the 360. Everything falls right into place. *FYI I'm actually fiddling with my controllers as I type this, to make sure I'm not making things up in my head*

Maybe I'm just "trained" for it now, But I still have far more years of PS/PS2 playing under my belt than 360 playing....who knows.

I love the Xbox 360 controller, fits perfectly into my hand.

It's all a matter of getting used to it tough. Doesn't matter what console.
Wise man.

I wonder though, is anyone used to both PS3 and Xbox controllers? For me I have to admit the Xbox controller sort of bugs me, though that's simply as you said, because I play PS3.
I'm used to both controllers. I don't think there are any specific games I played on both consoles. I've played Call of Duty 4 and H.A.W.X. on both.

I have one game on 360 and it's sequel on PS3 for example:
Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed 2
Call of Duty 3 and every CoD after
Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption (technically not a GTA, but it basically uses the same controls so it counts)
Rainbow Six: Vegas and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

I'm very confused...why would you assume we cannot carry on an intelligent discussion? I'm not trying to antagonize you, but posting about the ergonomics of the controller isn't "intelligent". You need stronger hands. Period. Everyone does. It isn't an insult, it's advice. By the way, good job paraphrasing my post. Nice way to hide the rest of a discussion.

Why would you buy that?
Because the 360 pad is fucking horrible for 2d fighting games and similiar genres.
Heck naw. You on crack?

Marvel VS Capcom was played to death on my 360. I bought Blaze Blue for the PS3. I really wish I'd have had my xbox fix'd.

Hand held controller wise I've yet to see anything that can compare to the 360's
I actually couldn't play BlazBlue on the 360 for shit. Then again, I played Guilty Gear religiously on the PS2, so that particular fighting game series requires a DualShock for me, simply because I'm used to how I owned face as Ky. That may have been another problem. I kept trying to play Jin like I played Ky.

Street Fighter IV on the other hand seemed to handle pretty well on the 360. As did MvC2.

Sorry to say I've never heard of it.
So you definitely haven't played everything.

It worked fine for all my RPG needs.
The controller doesn't really matter for an RPG, you don't need the same quick control you do for other games.

It is still my go to optin for FPS games,
Hard to take you seriously here, it's an objective fact that mouse and trackball are far better than an analog stick for aiming.

it's the best handheld controller for fighting games,
That's laughable. The Sega Saturn pad is the best for fighting games, and the 360 controller is nothing like it. I wouldn't play most fighters with a PS3 controller either, but still, no way the 360 controller is good for that.

I never really played much racing. But it felt good for burnout.
If you can re-map the accelarate off the triggers or can use manual shifting it works all right for the same reason RPGs do - you're not using the stick much.

Yea... But they all feel like they're made out of happy meal toys.
False. Some do, most don't. You may have had bad luck, but plenty of them are good quality.

*Shrugs* I'm fine with the analog position in any way. Although, I am used to the way the 360 controller (and incidentally the Gamecube controller) had it.

Maybe my hands are just big or something, but everything is easy to reach and hit. I don't think I have ever used the D-pad for anything, so I'm not even sure if it does work right or not. Maybe because hand size differencs or something, but my hands fit into the 360 controller perfectly. I think everything is just as easily reached as a PS3 controller.
