So, I was just curious whether anyone else has had a similar experience to what happened to me this evening:
I was reading about one of my favorite bands (The Hush Sound), and specifically about their latest record (Goodbye Blues), and it struck me why I'd always thought it (a) was weaker and more disjointed than their previous albums, and (b) mostly kind of sucked. The two leads of the band had been considering breaking up, and so ended up writing songs for their own solo careers. Those songs (when they reconciled) became the album itself. But, obviously, that method doesn't lend itself to the kind of synergy of previous albums.
So, has this happened to you guys (and girls)? You read something about a book/movie/album and can suddenly understand why something sucked?
The same thing happened with the "Sword of Truth" series. I'd not realized the later books were written in response to the anti-war movement. They still suck, but it makes sense why they suck.
