What bad games do you think were centered around good ideas?
For me, harry potter and the deathly hallows. See, the logic was sound. The later films are more action packed, even pseudo violent (as in there isn't much blood, but a lot of death) so turning the tie ins (which have sometimes produced half decent games, BTW) into gears of war with spells had a sound logic to it.
So where did it go wrong? I'd say it's that using spells didn't feel much different from a gun, which it should, and there wasn't enough variety in it.
Also, resident evil raccoon city, although I don't think it went so badly, the game definately doesn't live up to some of the excellent ideas, like making people bleed so monsters attack them, and trying to get enemies infected whilst avoiding infection of your team. I hope it gets a sequal so it can all be done better.
