I always found these things kind of weird - how does growing a bad mustache raise awareness for anything other than the reason why most people don't have bad mustaches?

It starts conversations.

"Oh you're growing a mustache..."
"Yeah, it's for Movember."
"For what?"
"To raise awareness of... (etc. etc.)"

Most people will question you wearing it and you can direct them to why, thus generating more interest. Your company has to have pretty harsh policies to disallow facial hair.

They allow facial hair, as long as it's neat and clean. I don't think any mustache I could grow would be neat.

I just can't grow a decent one. Awesome beard, bad mustache.

Jesus, you guys. Activision is running a full-on marketing campaign to raise awareness, it's one of the charity's four - yes, just four - "major partners," AND it's kicking in an extra $1000 on top of whatever Australian gaming raises the most money for Movember, and all you can do is complain about it?
