Not in a terms of gameplay, not in a terms of animation. no third person game let alone TPS still has surpassed max payne 3. i mean what the hell happened?

are developers to be blamed? for making boring open world copy paste games? or making cover based shooters? or loot MP shooters? or lot of developers jumping on open world RPG bandwagon? although its not best max payne game. it will always be original but holy crap this game has shooting mechanics, the gameplay, even amazing story.

so my friends, lets discuss why after almost we still havenot witness pure action third person game like this??

easily one of the best TPS game ever and by far best rockstar game ever.

Wow, sucks to exist in a worldline where Nier Automata wasn't made.

Damn you, CERN! You will not have the last word! Alpha psi kongoo.

Surpassed Max Payne 3 in what? Awfulness? Bad cutscenes? Bad loading? Shitty characters and writing? The practice of cutscenes shoving you into a firefight without immediate means of finding cover and changing your currently equiped weapon from long gun to handgun? Yeah, it hasn't, because other games don't suck as much.

Nier Automata is not all about sieving dudes with bullets, so I'm assuming it doesn't count. Not to mention you play as a girl.

Also, B-Cell seems to be talking mostly about combat mechanics. While I agree it Nier Automata overall the better game, in terms of actual combat, it is rather basic, especially for a Platinum game. Of course, if we're talking purely about supertight and indepth 3rd person combat, I'd say Devil May Cry 5 is the current king.

Must be nice only liking maybe 5 games. You never have too much trouble deciding what to play, never build up a backlog and don't end up spending too much money on games. I envy you B-Cell.

Hey, you play as 9S too. He's a dude.

And Nier is an rpg rather than an action game like Bayonetta so what you wanna compare it to is things like Kingdom Hearts more so than pure action games.

As for king, I'm most partial to Sekiro but DMC5 is excellent too. I just know that I played it right after DMC5 and I'm not the biggest soulsborne fan but it eclipsed dmc5 for me, entirely.

Who knows, it may just be that I'm really partial to period Japanese games where you play as a ninja. Though I also love those epic demons of dmc too so it's a really close call haha.

Wow, Dalisclock was right.

I mean...yes! Max Payne 3 is way, way better than Conflict Desert Storm. You are absolutely right 100%. No argument there.

Bollocks, somehow completely forgot about Sekiro. I haven't played it tho, so I'll withhold any judgment on how it compares, but by all accounts I've heard, it is a contenter to the throne.

Nier is a fuck awesome game but I'm not sure the two are that comparible. I think something like Bayonetta 2, Metal Gear Rising Revengence or DMC 5 would be closer, but if you want something even close then that. Then we need to talk Vanquish. The story is crap but its got really good solid 3rd person shooting gameplay.

Nah, B-Cell doesn't like Vanquish. So eh, you know, that obviously disqualifies it. I even found the relevant post:

I have made this thread long ago and yes cover and regen health ruined third person games. and entire genre suffer. we never had TPS as good as Mafia 1 and Max payne.

and that also include vanquish. never understand why people like it. its same crap but just fast paced sliding.

There are loads of third person game?s better than MP3. As far as third person shooters though...it?s at least still one of the better ones overall in terms of gameplay mechanics.

I see your Max Whatshisname 3, and raise you Enter the Matrix, the finest 3rd Person game ever

In all honesty though, Conker's Bad Fur Day was pretty rad. What other game let's you duel a katana with a chainsaw?

Fucking hell, yes they have. I get you only play around 10 games total ever, but that doesn't mean games haven't evolved beyond the ones you like.

It makes making a thread easy too. Just look at the history of the same 4 threads, choose a topic between 1 or 2 games out of his very small list, add in "is ruining everything" or "is the best thing ever" or even "WILL be the best thing ever" if we're feeling spicy, and them bam, new thread made.

Making forum topic threads is just so easy in 3 simple steps!

I had a lot of fun with Max Payne 3, and from purely gunplay point of view, it holds up really well. For some reason R* didn't manage to recreate the same feel in GTA V and RDR1 (haven't played RDR2 yet so I can't comment on it). Max Payne 3 does that whole John Wu Hong-Kong action movie thing, and it does it well. But let's not be blind to its faults.

Max Payne 3 is an incredibly short game and gameplay segments are not even 5 hours in total. The game is 8 hours long when you include all the cutscenes. The levels are linear to such a ridiculous extent that it's essentially an on-rails shooter. It's also designed with consoles in mind, which is why the weapons basically don't have any recoil whatsoever and you can just spam headshots all day long in slow motion, which takes any kind of skill requirement out of the equation. And let's not forget that sniping sequence in the helicopter. Since when is a glorified turret section a hallmark of a good shooter?
Then there's the writing, which is unremarkable in every way you can imagine, and when compared directly to prequels it's terrible. Mainly because the story is boring and the characters are awful in that modern R* kind of way where they range from highly unlikable to goddamn insufferable. But my biggest gripe is probably the setting. Max Payne should have stayed in New York. Brazil was a dumb fuckin' place to end the series in. What on god's green Earth were they thinking?

Just Cause 2 and 3 remain the best third person action games in recent memory. Ghost Recon Wildlands is also not a bad game, for those who prefer a more tactical gameplay.

I genuinely had more fun mucking about with the third person console commands in Half Life 1. Certainly didn't feel like I was on as much of a damn leash as with Max Payne 3: Max Shoot Dodges Once then Spends the Rest of the Day Wondering What Else He Can Do Down There to Postponing Getting Back Up

Yeah, but that's realistic for an old man.. who has bullet-time powers.
