I've noticed an increasing amount of people saying why should something be illegal if it only affects them.

So I have a question. What do you guys believe about things that affect only you, do you think about anything other than the pleasure of it?

Sorry if this comes off as accusing I'm just a little curious.

"It only effects me." is all fine and good, but when tons of other people are doing too, a problem could potentially arise.

That being said, I think it really depends on the illegal activity and how much you do it.

Things that only affect me shouldn't be illegal and if they are I'd likely break them anyway.

If they really only affect me, there is no way anyone would find out.

I have a question: what crimes 'only affect you?' I can't really think of any.

A worthwhile point. You may think that smokin' up in the basement's no big thing, after all, you're not hurting anyone. Tell that to the people caught in the crossfire between the Mexican drug gangs on the border.

Of course, if your friend is growing his own and distributing, this point is moot, and they don't call it "weed" for nothing, so legalization makes sense for that.

What bugs me is true victimless crimes of consent, like prostitution. If a woman wants to profit from her own sluttiness while she's still young enough and good-looking enough, she should be able to do so.

But that is caused by the illegality of it, so wouldn't that really be a point in the other camp?
