I lol'ed. I agree, degrees don't hold much weight these days... especially a BS in Journalism XPlightsier said:Congratulations! I guess most people go to school for the diploma? I am going to build my skillslightsier said:Congratulations! Oh yeah, and now I am officially unemployed! AWESOME! >.>
Anyway, for the sake of discussion value riddle me this: how did you handle the end of your education (be that high school, undergraduate degree, masters, etc.)? How soon did you find a job?
Less of a downer than you might think, as thats pretty much my life right now- just sub in SC2 and the depression fouling up my job prospects.gCrusher said:...man... Diablo.
The first one.
Once I got out of high school I played it sunup to sundown for nearly two solid years. I didn't realize it consumed my life so badly, and my parents didn't really seem to care. One day, I logged into Sorceror's Tower with my lvl 50, Merlin_The_Wise, joking about how I'd get in a couple of Laz runs today...
...and without any outside force, no nagging, no suggestions, I just sorta snapped. I asked myself the big question.
"What am I doing with my life?"
While I did not go cold turkey, I did prioritize. Took about a month, but I got a job at a call center, and actually began working, living, enjoying myself on a level that all the Laz runs in Sanctuary couldn't satisfy. I feel for people who enter games like Diablo, World of Warcraft, or for a roomie of mine, Neverwinter Nights Persistent Worlding, and have real trouble putting the game down.
Addiction is serious business, regardless of the drug or distraction of choice.
Sorry for the downer, party people.
I've heard the whole thing before from buddies who brought themselves back from alcoholism; you've got to want the change yourself, no one can make the choice for you, so on and so forth. But it really is true. Balance in all things, and you'll find you can still enjoy without going overboard.Togs said:Less of a downer than you might think, as thats pretty much my life right now- just sub in SC2 and the depression fouling up my job prospects.
