PLEASE DO NOT GET OFFENDED BY THIS POST IM JUST CURIOUS
Ok so recently i've been on youtube and people will comment on how it's always the black guy who dies in movies
now i looked at all the accounts and most of these people were black themselves
so to get to the point i was watching a movie where literally six white people die and 1 black guy survives would that offend you if you were or are white.
and once again im just curious do not take this seriously.

Deep Blue Sea. The movie went out of it's way to do the opposite of everything you expected which is why I love it even though it's a shit movie. It was hilarious.

Sam Jackson did get chomped early on but the other black guy did pretty well.

That's exactly what I thought, look at saw 2. It's a brilliant horror film yet the black guy doesn't die first

well, its usually true, I mean here is a fact:

if you wish to survive the Apocalypse or some terrible disaster, don't:
be a Racial Minority
go on about a loved one you cant wait to find
unarmed,
friends with the leader

thats only a small sample.

What if he or she wasn't American? What if he or she was Haitian? HAH! Logic stomp!

You forgot to add 'if you are going to become white'. Not that I fall in any category.

True but as my boyfriend just pointed out (since i have not yet seen most of them)... Not only does Saw 2 have a black guy die though not first, one other of the Saw movies i belive does also and he also does not die... Problem is, they quite often do die rather then survive right until the end. So maybe that could get people's back up.

I have seen many movies where the black guys come out on top but nine times out of ten you get films with little or no actors of a different race (to be polite). This does occasionally get on my nerves and i have curesed at a movie for having no mixed charaters.

It wouldn't offend me, it would amuse me. I enjoy trope subversions.

I fucking LOVED LL Cool J in that movie. The scene where he's filming his 'last words'...

yeah not allot of people do the whole colour change thing, I mean MJ did it, but after all the stuff he "did" to himself he ended up looking like a freaking zombie... so he isn't the best example of cosmetic surgery in any sense.

And no it wouldn't offend me, why would it?

Only people with racist leanings care about that sorta thing.

This dates back more to the 70s and 80s.

It comes I think from the fact that non-whites were deemed to deserve better representation in films, so you got the principle of the "token minority". However, the mostly white audiences would rarely warm to a non-white hero: with the notable exceptions of "In The Heat of The Night" (1967) and a few Eddie Murphy films in the 80s, there were very few mainstream police or action movies with a non-white lead until the 1990s. (I don't think blaxploitation films were mainstream.) So basically the non-whites were the sidekicks, and it's just a standard movie cliche that the sidekick tends to die before the end.

It was a well known cliche amongst people of any colour that the black guy died before the end for years. It's maybe less obvious now, what with the likes of Denzel Washington and Will Smith leading movies.

And I am curious to how you managed that?. Did they have their skin colour on their profiles?.

Dawn of the Dead. You think he's gonna die at the end but... BOOM! And he's killed every zombie in the mall and made it to the helicopter before it leaves. If that was a spoiler to you, stop what you are doing, find the Trilogy of the Dead (Night, Dawn, Day) and watch them all now - you'll be doing yourself a favour.

Great film, George A. Romero did the world a favour with that film...

i don't mind if whitey gets it first, if there are 6 white people and 1 black guy odds are pretty good the 2 or more are gunna die before the black guy, its math.

I'd also like to point out that, I've seen quite a lot of horror/slasher movies that star/costar/feature/whatever a black person, I've found that 9/10 times if they're not the first to die, they will inevitably die sooner or later as the movie progresses. I'd like to point out I'm not being racist, its just what I've noticed.
see, they have to die at some point, otherwise the killer's racist... you have to be an equal opportunity force of terror... the only way to get around it is to have multiple people in the cast of the same gender/sex, pull a horror movie off Ark style, two of each, it's the way of the future.

man that sounds racist.

addendum: while I'm at it, I may as well say it's pointless to get offended about something as trivial as a person with a skintone that isn't white dying in a movie, especially a horror movie. every time I hear someone cry about how "the black guy's always the first to go" I want to punch them in the throat if only because that statement alone proves that they're more focused on the color of people's skin than on the subject at hand.

Well black people is movies also have the tendency to be incredibly badass so, it about evens out. But no I'm not offended when all the white people die first, I actually like it a little more, they're always more annoying.(Yes I'm white)

No I wouldnt be offended. However, I hate when black people call me whitey and honkey, and If i call him the "N" word he will start freaking out and threaten me. Thats the real discrimination as well as hippocracy

I've seen Night, Day & Land. This has led me to believe Romero is a highly overrated director
In all honesty, Dawn is the best one. Land is the worst by a loooong way.
