I've been subjected to this a lot, everyones opinions on Remakes of songs.
I think it was Linkin Park or Green Day that redid headstrong, and barely kept the spirit of it.
The Jonas Brothers(If they really are brothers) took a classic beatles song and SkullF(&^ed it.
Whats your opinion?Do they remake songs too early, and ruin it,or change the entire feel of the song, from light rock to pop?

I think its they change the entire feel of the song. Most Covers, not remakes, are like this because the band that is covering a song cannot emulate the original bands feel. If a band could cover another bands song then music would be totally shit, or at least metal and all of its sub-genres and related genres

Every time you post I get an image of the old woman from your avatar cussing and shouting. It makes everything you say hilarious.

I really don't think that songs should be redone by other bands, it just doesn't seem right :/.

Or it could be that these remakes that are "skull fucking" the originals are just the new band's interpretation of the song. Music, like any other art form, is open to interpretation, and just because you don't agree with a certain interpretation doesn't give you the right to call it "skull fucking". If you don't like it, don't listen to it. It can only ruin the original if you let it.
Oh and FYI, I haven't even heard the song remakes you're talking about, so don't start slapping me with all kinds of labels.

While most covers suck, I actually like a few of them. I like Fall Out Boy's cover of "Beat It", for example.

I think this is the point. Most, if not all covers that I've heard have had their own spin on it. It might be something subtle or something totally different.

I don't hate you, its a good song! I like quite a lot of covers.

To OP: To restore your faith in covered songs go listen to Holy Diver by Killswitch Engage. Or Careless Whisper by Seether. Of if you like it when the alternative scene rips on dance music try this :)

The only remixes I typically like are symphonic remixes of old midi songs. Chrono Symphonic is the greatest thing ever to happen to awesome.

It does matter when you say you like song X, and people think you mean the recent cover which sucks. A big one that pissed off my good mate was the cover of The Who's "Behind blue eyes" by Limp Bizkit.

That said some covers are so famous people don't realise they're covers, a remember someone I know commenting on "the shitty cover of hallelujah in the watchmen movie", not realising it was the original Leonard Cohen version (which made that scene hilariously ridiculous).

I forgot about that,It was goos to listen to but listening ain't the point :O
I mean that the band took something and only modified the instruments played on,and a few notes.

This applys to only a few songs, mind you.I like the songs but I like original content better.

I feel that it all stems from a lack of creativity. Sometimes I've found remakes to be better than the originals they were based on.

Funny, I also know someone who said that was an "awful" cover. I died a little inside.

I've seen many an uneducated argument about cover songs by folks who don't realize that the songs they like ARE cover songs.

Honestly, I'm going to very likely hate a cover song if I hate the artist singing it. There are good covers, there are bad covers--like any song, it's open to interpretation.

I also get a little frustrated when songs that are different share the same name, my pet peeve was with the name "Girls & Boys", I love the Blur song by that name, but most people these days only seem know the Good Charlotte song by the same name, then I find out Prince had a hit in the eighties by that name (thank you wikipedia).

In a perfect world nothing would get remade.

The only good thing to come out of remakes is the remake of the original Resident Evil for the Gamecube (which was re-released again on Wii). This is a masterpiece.

I cannot think of any other instance of a remake being better than the original.
Then you've never heard Korn's cover of the Cameo song "Word Up."
