You have a good point there.
The problem comes when people fail to address the issue of their current dislike only by pointing out previous titles.
Yeah FF series are individual titles and that's why there are always "fresh". But when the development team goes outside of the basic formula that's their mistake.
Surely there will be diverting opinions. Aside opinions there are "technical" issues/choices the development team made, that have to be taken in consideration from the consumers and critics/reviewers.
We welcome every change, we are looking for it but that doesn't mean every change is a good one.
As far as it goes it is reasonable not having every title be the best. Problem with many people are they are leaving in denial. Yeah there are many that really loved some titles and others that hate those. the third comes struggling liking it and mainly trying to convince others for it without any good arguments.
