It's Time to Stop Talking About Final Fantasy

You have a good point there.
The problem comes when people fail to address the issue of their current dislike only by pointing out previous titles.
Yeah FF series are individual titles and that's why there are always "fresh". But when the development team goes outside of the basic formula that's their mistake.
Surely there will be diverting opinions. Aside opinions there are "technical" issues/choices the development team made, that have to be taken in consideration from the consumers and critics/reviewers.

We welcome every change, we are looking for it but that doesn't mean every change is a good one.
As far as it goes it is reasonable not having every title be the best. Problem with many people are they are leaving in denial. Yeah there are many that really loved some titles and others that hate those. the third comes struggling liking it and mainly trying to convince others for it without any good arguments.

Here is something that I've come across a bit whenever anyone mentions one of the Final Fantasy games. People will quickly rush to talk about their favorite title even when the topic is about a specific Final Fantasy title. Why is that? Each and every game is unique. Each game draws little from the previous title. Sure there are some similarities between games but all in all they are unique and differed from title to title. I've heard the argument that one Final Fantasy is better than another. This is absurd and it has to stop.
This is like comparing apples and oranges. Some will like the apples, some will like the oranges. There really is nothing comparable between them other than one's preference for taste.

So can we please stop talking about Final Fantasy as a list of favorites and just enjoy the games?

I have never even touched a Final Fantasy game.

What's the whole verus thing about? Or is that just because Final Fantasy versus XIII is a slightly less ridiculous name than Final Fantasy XXVI?

I'm not a fan of JRPGs in general, so I never really liked the Final Fantasy series.

However, up until VII I could still understand someone else's like and sort of appreciate parts of the game, even though it was ultimately not to my taste. I even went as far as playing IV and VI past the halfway mark.

From VIII on, it fully embraced everything I hate about the mainstream japanese culture. The latter titles, I can't even look at the covers without feeling as if something was lost forever, and another landmark has been reached towards the no turning point from complete blandness and banality.

I gotta feel sorry for the Final Fantasy devs. It must suck knowing that nothing you do is going to live up to the unreasonably high bar set by the poorly-translated mess that was FFVII, yet you're still required to put long development times into these games because it's basically like printing money for your company.

I started with X and enjoyed in and I recently picked up VII and VIII used to see how they are. Still haven't really gotten into either yet.

Nobody wants to talk about the game XI and up, that is the problem.

VI was the best BTW. I have done so so so many run throughs of that game.

Agreed on the FFVI comment, disagreed on the FFXI and up comment. FFXIII is all anyone is talking about these days and, frankly? I'm a little sick of it. Let's go back to long, cathartic discussions of why FFVII is slowly being murdered to death with sequels like DoC.

Actually it's more like comparing apples to another, slightly different type of apple, to be perfectly frank. I mean, what do you expect? They all share the same title, which suggests a consistent brand of gameplay, storytelling, and features. Even for the most objective fan that's a distinction that's a distinction that's difficult (read: impossible) to ignore.

FF gets that because most folks think of the series in nostalgia eyes. Square-Soft/Enix used to be such a loved company...now...not so much. As a once fanboy the the company, it's kind of a shame the path they've gone. Time to jump ship to support Atlus...

What path? I fail to see what changed.

They USED to make some great games, ones with story and graphics.Now, not so much.

They still make good games.

Ummm... no?
Yeah, Front Mission Evolved sucked, because it was a different genre intended for a different audience. But 4 and 5 are both awesome. And jumping ship for Atlas? As far as story and graphics go, Atlas doesn't do anything better than Square.
Right now, I think we're seeing the 'fans' split off from the 'fanboys'- the ones who accept change in a franchise and who are excited for the future, vs. the people who loved a certain aspect of the older games and are mad at Square for doing something different.

What audience the 'SLAG' or 'Armored Core done wrong' crowed?

Atlus does, for me, do JRPGs better then SE does.
The story in P3 alone is better than the latest FFs combine.
They may not have the graphical level of some SE games, but when it comes to game play, story, and characters I'd say Atlus is running circles around SE.

Hey, I'm all for change - if it's done right - but for me SE has been doing downhill since FF7.
Sure, they've released a few decent games since, but after the PS1 era it seems like they decided to go with the flow and started developing 'meh' games.

At least they publish some decent stuff though.

I'm pretty sure he knew this exact thing would happen. You can't talk about Final Fantasy without people tripping over themselves saying which is the best or their favorite.

And on that note, VIII is my favorite, though I understand that it doesn't grow on everyone.

I enjoyed FF:Tactics and FF:IX, in my opinion as good as it's gotten after VI(before VII I never played much).

I never really enjoyed VIII, X or XIII.

I always fell asleep while playing FF9, not because it was boring or anything but it kinda felt like a lullaby, the music was really softcore and the grphics were so friendly I used to lay in bed watching a talky scene and found myself sucking my thumb and dozing off to sleep.

OT: Zell FF8 = fan hearts <3 <3 <3.
Oh and GF system was pretty good too! GFs actualy doing their job and guarding your hit points!
