Ey my dudes, there is a lot of good metal and stuff talked about on the escapest, but my personal favorite type of music is that hard hitting, dirty, soul pounding, funk.

not to say that i dont listen to other things in fact, i am believer that there can be greatness in any genre as long as you take the music for what it is and not what your percieved concept of good music is.

This forum can be for whatever you think the word funk or funky pertains to.
any time period is ok. (doesn't have to be just traditional 70's and 80's funk bands.)

Here is a few to get started.

Parliament Funkadelic

The Meters

The Commodores

Rage against the machine

C-Lo Green

UGK

Pantera (Think about it)

I don't know much about Funk, but this man [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/John%20Funk] is the funkiest man I know!

I'm sorry, I'm not a big fan of 70s funk, but you were gonna get that joke eventually, but I will admit that I am a fan of C-Lo Green.

Don't know funk but I do know that Daft Punk did some songs that have 'funk' in it.

Da funk back to the punk 'cmon! Da funk back to the punk c'mon! [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjGXW9JfrvA]
Da Funk [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z014I7FvDCo]

C-Lo Green, heard of him because of his song 'Forget You' and I like him. A fresh break from the usual crap I hear on the Radio and T.V. Yeah he's a pretty good artist.

Most of the funk I know came from 2 sources:

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Bounce FM and Master Sounds)

2. Class of 3000

Don't ban me for posting this song...But if this is funk, than I like funk.

I've found that they made some excellent funk and jazz-funk in Soviet Union of all places. You can find a few examples from youtube.

The song is actually "Fuck You", that's the radio edit.

For once, I like the radio edit better...

Yeah I know =P, but I never once heard him saying 'Fuck' because it's always cut out. Strange how when he first came out (on the radio over in NZ) it wasn't 'Forget.'

I like 'forget' better too.
EDIT:I just heard the 'explicit' version and don't like it much. Note that I love swearing but I guess the censored one grew on me.

Red Hot Chili peppers. Also, WHAT THE BLOODY CRIKEY is Pantera doing on your list there? And Rage against the machine?

Rage for the same reason as RHCP, because they are funky. i feel like something can be funky without actually being funk music.

Pantera because its the funkiest metal band i could think of. you may not agree with me but i'm really just trying to reiterate my point that all types of music can be funky.

Plus they have a guy named Dimebag as there lead guitarist (Rest in Peace)

You want funky? You get funky!
Get in the groove baby! Never heard a song that groovy, not even an original from the 70's.

Also, Rage Against The Machine funky?! What...the fuck?

But...the whole point of the song is "fuck you". Silly puritine Americans, don't think I ever heard that song censored.

Ok, far enough, but remember that Red Hot Chili Peppers actually classify as funk.

I don't get the 'dimebag' thing though.

Are they funk? is that what it says on itunes or something?

Or are they post-modern, funky, rock music? They definetly take many influences from old funk artists. i guess you could call them funk.

any band with a member named after a measurment of weed should at least be in the running for being considered funky. (my opinion)

So dimebag is a measurement of weed? I didn't know that. I thought it was something to do with coins. Or dice. Or something. And red hot chili peppers was funk, untill they made californication. after that it got more and more pop-rock-ey.

But still, to call Pantera funk is strange to me.

Three of my favorite tracks, for your listening enjoyment.

People today forget what Stevie's music was like back in the 70s.

I love the bass line in this one.

It was a huge pain tracking down a CD with this on it.

I had the funk until I accidentally gave it to a homeless guy instead of a dollar.
