Itunes Smart playlists

So basically i normalyl listen to my whole music library on random. but ive noticed random doesnt seem all that random. i keep hearing the same songs repeatedly while others ill hear once then not again for days.

so i tried making a 25 least played song play list but it put whole albums in it. putting whole albums in it sort of defeats the purpose of playing it randomly.

so nayone know what settings/rules i need to set so that it creates a play list of say 50 least played song and randmly selects the songs from different albums/artists.

Odd. I've made one for testing just now and you're right, it doesn't seem to do randomness at all. And with mine, if it couldn't do it by album (my library is a mess) it did it by genre.

I don't know how to fix that, but what did to force iTunes into a bit more randomness was to make a smart list that only played songs with a last played date of at least 30 days ago (I don't have a lot of music). Right now out of 25 tracks only 3 are from the same album (and again, I don't have that many in the first place).

edit: oh, I forgot... I also use that smart list as the source for the iTunes DJ, I don't play the list itself.

yeah i set it to pick up songs from my playlist with all my songs i want to listen to. (excludes instrumentals etc) the increased the limit to 50 songs and selected by least often played. its still not randomly selecting songs but then i can put it on random play back.

so it has the 50 least played songs, and cause most of my albums are 10-15 songs it will include 3-5 albums and i guess thats about as random as i can get it.

ok anyone know how to make it so itunes is less likely to pick songs from the same album or artist.

at the moment i have it on shuffle and it will play several songs in a row by the smae artist or album. and way to make the shuffle more random. i thought i remebered seeign an option to make it more or less likely to pick a song at random from the same artist. but cant see it any more.

all i want is a play list of my least played songs that is random and plays random songs from the list. is that too much to ask for.


i am fine with my least played play list but if you know how to make it randomly select the least played song that would be good.

I'm sure I've read something before about the itunes "random" song selection being more complicated than simply pulling a song out of a hat, I believe songs you have played more times have a greater chance of being chosen. No idea how to manipulate the chances of a song being chosen manually though.

Your rating for songs also affects their chance of being selected, does that help?
