A shovel has a larger concave blade with rounded or pointed tip, while a spade has a smaller, flatter blade with straight edges. A spade also has a shorter shaft, usually with a D or T-shaped handle at the end. A shovel is for scooping and moving, a spade is for digging and breaking ground because it can slice through hard soil and roots.

There is such a thing as a power spade, which is like a spade that's a bit closer to being a shovel, but still works very well as a spade. It is not, sadly, actually a powered tool, it was just a branding thing. I have a Wilkinson Sword one and it's pretty good, though I don't think they make them any more.

I bought a spade from Wilkos (nothing to do with Wilkinson Sword) once and the blade literally bent in half when it was loaded with soil. Rubbish.

A spit is where it's at if you like digging holes (by hand I mean).

Though, that seems to be a wide and shallow drivel, and not a shovel or spade. I am intrigued by the idea of a powered hand-held shovel, however.

FWIW, much of escapist fare (i.e., part of hobbies) involves woke because of ESG scores, and it may be leading to problems with revenues because many want to stay away from the same drama but can't.

Usually the bad guy can be racist and the good guy can not. Oh noes it got political.
