Fellow Escapees, I have just done it. I have beaten the Rebel Flagship in FTL and earned myself the Advanced Cruiser. Only on Easy, of course, I'm not mad enough to try on Normal.

Anyway, how are you fine gentlemen/ladies/in-between getting on in FTL?

Beat it on normal a while back, played it on and off for a while to get some extra ships, but I've pretty much stopped since it's just way too luck based. Fuck getting that last ship.

I remember beating the game a few times on Easy, and once on Normal. It pretty much got down to whether or not I was able to pick up either one of the two more powerful beams (Glaive and Halberd I think, it's been a while), and then just cheese my way through with those. Good fun.

Haven't played it in a while though.

Got up to the third form of the boss on normal a couple of times, but never quite finished.

Got fed up with the luck based systems and quit. Will probably go back one day.

Funny story.

I once completed all the luck-based encounters to get the super secret ship. I had the quest marker and was good to go.

Then I accidentally used the crystal guy's ability at the wrong time and locked him in a room with no oxygen.

There was much rage. Also, possibly tears and the tearing of hair.

I beat the first stage on the rebel flagship a couple of times but I couldn't get to any repair points but then the game starts actually cheating and sending two million drones at you.

Jesus that sounds painful. I never actually got far enough to get the guy. I think once I had the canister and I was in the sector that potentially could advance the objective but then I died.

Beat it once. On easy.

Took me like 25-30 tries. At the end i just loaded my ships up with missiles and bombed the shit out of it.

If you know how to do it its pretty easy. But the rest is just too luck based.

I just used maxed out shields, high engines and a Mk 2 Defence Drone. Plus a lot of teleporting to destroy their badly-placed weapon compartments. Worked like a treat.

Well done OP, those of us who've beaten that bastard know how tricky he is.

OT: After winning several times, unlocking all the ships, and their Type Bs, I started using the same ship over and over, with the same strategy and inevitably got burned out and stopped playing. But I must have put close to a hundred hours into it, so I definitely got my money's worth.
