games are played to have fun - don't take the fun out of your game :(
But is your fun more important than my fun? I know guys who think it is fun to play AD Annie and AD Gragas, but that just ruins fun for the others who want to win. You might find playing AP Olaf fun, but I can guarantee the other 9 players will not find it very amusing, as they are stuck clowning around for at least 20 minutes.

You can have fun while losing, but you can't have fun when not trying. Too often people can't tell the difference between playing outside the meta/ trying something new and being a troll.
nope, no one's fun is more important than someone else's, but it seems that to some people (and i have one of those among my friends) fun = winning, thus no win - no fun (if the game doesn't go as planned he becomes the worst raging bitchy whiny pussy in the hood! guess some games/genres have that effect on some of people)

also, as i said: "that includes not asking for a major eff-up, for example by playing a new char, or one you don't play well, during a ranked match, of course - no need to provoke shit" - no-one should intentionally fuck up a match by doing/buying obviously stupid shit. but there's intentional feeding, and there's just not-being-as-blessed-with-über-LoL-skillz-like-you

you wouldn't want the worst player to join your team for a tournament, but a match between classes on the schoolyard - why bother?

i am certainly not the best LoL-player on god's green earth, and of course my friends know that as well as i do, so i don't play ranked games (neither with them nor random)
also, as they play much more than i do i ask them for advice on new chars or after more-or-less major updates (tried that in random games too, but it seems some people prefer bitching to help improve someone's game; but at least they usually stop flaming afterward)

if they are out for a win they play ranked (without any wild experiments regarding builds or whatnot), and if they want to spend some of their leisure time chatting with friends via voicechat while playing LoL just for fun they go for a normal game and play it all relaxed

nothing wrong with being ambitious and competetive and all, but no need to be a dick about it - it's not like your future is at stake there; that's what RL is for ;)

in my opinion a game that has to instate a judgement system to go through all the players that act like assholes in game doesn't bode well to non-trolls

While the only time I've delt with those fellows is in TF2, where I wasn't the direct object of the harassment. There were these three fellows, pestering this little kid in TF2, and I tried to get them to let him/her be, and get him/her away from there. I... didn't do that well, they pretty much ignored me and continued to harass her. I didn't know how to contact the little kid, so I couldn't tell him/her to get off the server... It's a real shame, and even now, a solid month afterwords, I'm still fairly flustered.

Also: I've probably been the but of the Internets stupidity, and just don't remember.

My first one of these was a couple weeks ago, when I was locked in Diana and called mid but decided to go top since someone else had just locked in Kassadin even though I called mid.
I shrugged it off as w/e but the moment I got to top, my teammate Teemo just started ranting at me in broken English, typing "ATTK NOOB" over and over for about 20 seconds,I attacked and killed the enemy Riven, but Teemo died, and just went off again with his keyboard. I just hit the ignore button for a bit, but after a while the rest of the team, being French, just started insulting me, calling me a "dumass American" and other hilarious petty "insults", telling me to go Mid, which I refused to do because of my stuborness. Eventually it led to threats of a report and I just laughed at them. Teemo, of course, did the whole roundabout from turret to turret, picking up kills (YES HE STOLE KILLS GET OVER IT) and using his high kill count as an excuse to call me a noob (I was 1-4-19 at this point just for reference).

The whole experience disgusted me so much I stopped playing the game for a couple weeks.

That was literally one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Thanks.

They did, any time a player gets reported too many times their account goes to the Tribunal for review and judgement. Also, they recently added an Honor system with 4 categories (Helpful, Friendly, Teamwork, Honorably Opponent). If you get honored enough times in any category (20-25 times I think?) then it displays a little graphic on your profile during champion selection.

I still think only opponents should be able to "honor" you, if only to prevent a quite obvious way to abuse the system. "Oh, so we'll play 5 games together and just honor each other for everything after each of them"

You can only honor a player in one category for a game. The potential is still there, but what does anyone really gain by scamming the honor system? They'll have the ribbon during champ select, but it doesn't really give any advantage or anything like that. It is a system that can be manipulated, but the stakes are low enough that it's not really a big deal if it is.

Besides, once the game actually starts everyone will form their own opinion of a player anyway.

AD Gragas is viable. His body slam gets AD scaling and his drink gives him more AD than Fiora's Riposte does. In addition to this, he gets damage reduction from his drink. The reason you hardly ever see it is because AP Gragas is better and easier to play, people don't use his drink effectively while AD, he has no MR per level and it negates all usability of his barrel roll.
Of course AD Gragas is somewhat viable, but there isn't a single reason to actually pick AD Gragas over all the other bruisers, which makes him useless in comparison.

literally just finished a game as tristana. laned with an awesome nami and a good team in general (barring the fact that they all went for baron when 4/5 of the enemy team was dead and they had lost 3 inhibs, barring one and myself). played against a lee sin jungle with the dragon fist skin, started out jokingly as he asked us all if he looked more like bruce lee or jackie chan. then he started claiming he was 'so pro' after getting a few early kills. needless to say, once the team fights started we ate him alive. only lost one or two turrets iirc.

well my son, welcome to LoL. thats a game that is free to play and therefor has tons of asshats in it. They try hard to better their comunity, but fact is, you will encounter those people.
so, my advice is: Use protection, aka: the mutebutton is your friend.

There is a reason. It's called fun. And your fun isn't anymore important than my fun.
But there's the primary question, is the fun of 3-4 other players more important than that of a single player? Sadly, LoL being a team based game means that people have to play together, and it can be very detrimental to other people's fun when a fed bruiser destroys the midgame because you thought AD Gragas was interesting. And besides, you can always play against bots, that way you can play whatever you want without anyone ever giving you any lip about it.

You are not 3-4 players. You are one person. You are the only person complaining about the SLIGHTLY different builds, and as soon as a professional player does it, you'll stop complaining about the build (see AD Kennen and AP Yi).
I can guarantee that others than just me will be displeased with a borderline trollpick like AD Gragas outside of a custom trollgame.

And AP Yi and AD Kennen are both shit overall. AD Kennen might work if you mean starting with dorans blades and building ap towards the end, and AP Yi is just bullshit.

And AD Gragas isn't a slightly different build, it's just picking something worse over something better. If we were talking about poker, it'd be choosing to go with two pairs instead of a full house.

Do what i do. Tear apart any shred of self esteem by mentally shitting over every action you take whilst simultaneously thinking of ways to improve your game. They can abuse you and call you stupid names all you like but if you accept that you are horrible it's fine and it shouldn't affect you. Like admitting to yourself you are fat when you way 500 pounds.

One bot, one mid, three junglers. One of my best games in LoL, ever. We demolished the other team.

As long as you know what you're doing, unconventional builds can work. Of course, if you do know what you're doing you know the difference between "unconventional" and "downright stupid"; I'd agree on that. And well, AD Gragas is more "unconventional" then "downright stupid".

Well, I can agree with that, however I'd argue most people who play these things do NOT know what they are doing, which is the problem. I don't mind someone trying something new if it has some thought behind it, but more often it is something like AD Janna or AP Janna. I'd classify both of those as "stupid" instead of "unconventional".

Other than that, something like AD Gragas has been played before. The reason I wouldn't like to see him on my team is because, well, there is nothing new or innovative about him. It would classify just as a lower tier bruiser, with nothing to offer that AP Gragas wouldn't do better.

AP and AD Janna also work great and do quite well, same with attack speed Lulu, AD Kennen, AD Gragas, AP Tristana, AP Ezreal, AP Poppy, attack speed orianna and support Wukong(to name a few obscure builds that I've seen out of over 1500 games). They are all limited by the skill of the player, the same as all other champion builds, however they're all equally capable as their normal counterparts.

Again, it's just you complaining that people aren't conforming to boring monotone builds. And as you said (once again), your fun isn't any more important than my fun. If you don't like it then dodge the games, because you seem to think that just because people aren't doing the same thing as everyone else then they're automatically trolling. People try new things and bots are really limiting considering that League is a PvP game.

If you don't want to play with those who are having fun with the game within the rules, then don't play with them and dodge instead. Other people shouldn't have to suffer for your intolerance.
I do not know what game you are playing, but AD and AP Janna, AD Kennen, AP Tristana, AS Ori and support Wukong do not work against anyone except scrub level players. AP Janna works to some degree in lane but falls off for the rest of the game, AD Janna is played only for lolz because of early level shield dominance (but after that you can utterly crush her), there is no reason to play AD Kennen over AP Kennen as AP Kennen brings the same utility and better damage, AP Tristana is played solely for the novelty of the AP scaling on her ult giving her good midgame burst but other than that she does jack shit, Attack speed/on-hit Ori is inferior to AP Orianna in every category, and support wukong is a trollpick whose only supportish quality is his ult but you could as well pick Sona, Zyra, hell even Galio.

With AD Gragas, AP Ezreal and AP Poppy the problem is they do nothing better than someone else. Sure, you CAN play them, but you really shouldn't.

"Again, it's just you complaining that people aren't conforming to boring monotone builds."

No, it's me bitching that you think you are trying something new and being a pioneer of new builds when instead you play something retarded that has been done a dozen times before. If you want something different, something new, play something viable instead. There are plenty of those.

For example:

-Revive/teleport Karthus
-Poppy (no, not ap poppy, bruiser poppy. Viable, and can be strong, but hard to pull off)
-Viktor

"If you don't want to play with those who are having fun with the game within the rules, then don't play with them and dodge instead. Other people shouldn't have to suffer for your intolerance."

In the context of your post, that is pretty bullshit. That's the same as you and 2 of your friends would join a football game and yell "WE ARE EXTRA GOALIES" and try to block shots with your body and standing by the goal for the entire game. Yeah, you will get your shits and giggles out of it, but it's not of any fun to the rest of the guys who just want to play a good game of football while 3 idiots figure trolling is fun.

Sigh, let's keep this short.

A Smooth Criminal said:
the only time those builds don't work is when you don't know what you're doing, and after a thousand or so games, I'm able to build champions sensibly and well enough that I can make most builds work as long as it's within reason.
No offense, but I know guys with 1000-2000 games who are baddies.

A Smooth Criminal said:
Except that they do. AD Gragas has a lot of early game dominance because he can easily get over 100 AD at level 1, has a nice scaling spell while also having reasonable sustain.

AP Ezreal does more longe range damage than AD Ezreal.

AP Poppy can easily take 50% of someone's health with her Q.
You want lane dominance and sustain? Play Swain, play Rengar, play Trundle.

AP Ezreal does more long range damage than Ezreal?
Well, Play Lux or Xerath.

AP Poppy can take 50% of someone's hp with Q?

Q = Bonus Magic Damage: 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 (+ 60% AP) (+ 8% of target's maximum health)

Yeah, maybe if you let her afk farm for couple dozen minutes.

A Smooth Criminal said:
So AP Yi doesn't work, but Revive/teleport Karthus is 100% viable? Really?... Again, just because you haven't tried a build out in a real game, or you did bad in a bot game with a build doesn't mean it's not viable. Generally people with the unorthodox builds are the ones who carry. Everyone knows how to counter an AD tank Nasus, but no one knows how to counter an AP support tank Nasus. (an example of a build I haven't tried, before you start complaining that that's not viable too).

No one's looking to look like a 10000 elo 'pioneer of builds'. However when you play a game extensively, it's a LOT more fun when you do something new, different and interesting. And again, just because you can't play Gragas with attack damage doesn't mean that other people can't.

Also, Viktor? Viktor's hardly an unorthodox champion, and he's not hard to play. If you think Viktor's being adventurous with builds then you obviously don't play League for fun, and I think you should question why you're playing the game instead of complaining that people like me are using unrecognizable builds.

Nono, I'm being serious now, you think that the closest to trolling in League without actually trolling is playing Poppy and Viktor? I've heard a lot of dumb things in League but nothing close to that.
First of all, you can drop the "when you play extensively" and "I got over a thousand games, i know what I am doing" thing. It simply doesn't work.
AP Yi's problem is that it's about the nuke on Q but the cooldown is so obnoxious that after that he is just a wet paperbag. Even if a pro player manages to pull it off, doesn't mean it's viable in general. Or are you just playing it "as soon as a professional player does it"?
Teleport+Revive Karthus works. Karthus has good bases and his passive. Mind you, This Karthus build is not a direct AP carry build, it's just about controlling objectives. You can murder-suicide someone, revive, and teleport to the scene. Ta-dah, you got a 5vs4 situation and you can take objectives.
Viktor is underplayed, therefore he is something rather new considering that you rarely see him around.
I only gave you examples. Besides, what you presented wasn't "unorthodox and adventurous", it was "grab barbed wire and jam it up your ass". AKA pointless and idiotic.

A Smooth Criminal said:
No it isn't, because I said "Within the rules". I am also clearly referring to builds that are within reason, as I sense that you're going to start twisting my arguments around to saying that I'm promoting trolls in the game and want everyone to go mid in all of my games.

You don't win every game with your staple champions, you don't win every game with your strange builds.
We clearly seek for different things within the game. I have fun when I have to seriously try to beat my opponent and have a close game (whether it's a win or lose), you have fun when you do random shit amidst baddies.

We really shouldn't be arguing about this; this is why there is an elo system in both ranked and normals, so that people can have fun on their own level.

The good thing about LoL is that precious little icon called "mute", it's very risky to use it (that of the game being highly dependant of your teammates and their ability to communicate), but it's entirely worth it if you can't stand that other player; I only used it once, because I'm pretty lucky to not encounter that "infamous LoL player", in fact, I'm pretty lucky to find so many nice people who are now in my friends list and we tend to play regularly.

Bad if it's HõN, that game has VoIP and you can't mute anyone (at least when I played it, over a year ago).
Stay far, far away from that game.

I love the hate/rage fuelled communities in MOBA games, or really anything competitive, mainly because when I roll with my bros, we love to just counter it with humour and make a big joke out of it, like in DoTA 2 I was playing on a team of all mates of mine, one of the enemy team calls us faggots, I speak up with "Better gay than retarded! :D" buddy of mine starts to go on and on about how he just loves taking it up the ass, and then goes on to offer his "Services" to the opposing team, meanwhile we're laughing our asses off and just playin a decent game, we ended up winning that match, but either way, trick with communities like that, is if they use standardized overused insults on you, turn them into a joke, if they get creative, start rating their insults on how creative or original they are.
