With all due respect, why is this article here? Yes, the man was a literary giant, but what's the relation to games...?
We cover all manner of news here, not just games-related. Science, movies, comics...anything we feel might be of interest to our readers.
Thank you for your reply, Ms. Arendt. This is something that I really like about the Escapist: The editors and staff don't just contribute content, you guys are actually active community members here as well.

I had a rebuttal prepared... here... somewhere, but can't seem to find it now. Oh well... I'm a little star struck, seeing as how I idolize this site & it's staff.

So, um... May I please have a pony?
One must earn poniosity.
Duly noted... Can't blame me for trying, right?

Yeah, I did in fact hear about his safe and the fact that there's a good chance that there are some unpublished manuscripts contained within... Pretty intriguing...

I've nothing against literature or reading, though I personally didn't care for Catcher in the Rye... The news story just felt a bit out of place here to me is all.

Writing this news post had a personal appeal for me - Salinger's novel held a special place in my heart while I was going through my angsty teen years, and from the comments, it sounds like it's still a part of the English curriculum. I understand that the relevance of this news may be lost here, which is why I didn't cover Howard Zinn's death as well. :D

Yes, Catcher in the Rye is still very much culturally relevant. One needs to look no further than the films Chasing Amy or Bottle Rocket to see it's influence. I also really enjoyed that it was referenced in the anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex...
