I'm a very big fan of anime, but Japanese Pop has never sat well with me. Granted, I've only listened to a small number of songs (Touho Bad Apple and the like) but maybe someone can explain the appeal or suggest some songs that may help me get into it. Or maybe I just don't like J pop. Help me find out if you can please.

What type of songs do you like in general? I mean I know a few (I'm mostly into J Pops) but I would be wasting my time posting a whole bunch of J pop, J rock etc if it's not your type of music.

This might help. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/CrowningMusic/Anime]

Of course, it's very possible that J-rock might be more your thing, as it avoids aspects of J-pop seen as most annoying (i.e higher voices, bubblegum tones, general pop music stuff). This is a good example. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K5goI_wmBI]

I like up beat songs, but my main problem with J pop is that it all feels too artificially happy, even when the subject matter (Ps i can speak a little japanese) calls for something completely different. I do like video game music, 0cremix is bookmarked for me, but here's an example of some music on my top 25 most listened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rp8Z5Aa1zs4

Well if you want to get into J-Pop then I suggest checking out Ai Otsuka. That's where I started, and I have been developing my J-pop taste from there.

The only band from Japan that I've every liked remotely are The Mad Capsule Markets, which would be J-rock. They've got the craziness of Japanese music fused with some kind of awesome.

But on a general level, most music to have come out of Japan hurts my brain, it feels like something from an 80's kids show usually. I've never come across anyone who's not some Japanophile nobface (not all people who like Japanese cases are nobfaces, just the extreme one's who have the misguided notion that we should all try to act more Japanese).

I hate Jap music anyways...

1 i can't stand it.
2 i can't stand it when asians sing in their own language. (can't even stand it when people sing in my own native language)
3 i am someone that hates Japan.
I second this motion. Except for point 2 because english is my native language, and everyone knows all great music is in english.

People have different taste, I can't stand rap and if someone tried to explain the appeal I'd just call B.S because the reason some people like it is the exact same reason I hate it.

Why do you people come into forums like these only to complain about a country that is very much different then your own? It's fine to have your own opinion, but damn....do you have to be so hateful on the subject matter or other peoples views?

To answer the actual question of this forum: If you don't find j-pop to your liking, then thats fine. It shouldn't affect your feelings on anime or japan in the slightest, just contine to enjoy anime the same way you have been doing.

My gf is really into Arashi and Greeeen, check out this song, I myself quite like it and I'm no fan of JPop, but I'm a sucker for a catchy tune.

I <3 Kokia, and favorites have to be the two songs used in the OP/ED of Phantom: Requiem.
