We assume for the sake of being hypothetical that Mr. Thompson has found a way to make his dirty little tactic perfectly legal.
That's as may be, but it's a hypothetical too far. When you can bribe people to give false statements to the Supreme Court without fear of legal repercusssion, that's a failed legal system right there.

Truly a Faustian Bargain if I've ever read one. But I have to accept. Video games barely take the third spot on my list of favourite entertainment media and, well, at least it's only M-rated games. I...

Wait, this just bans M-rated games in the States, not in Canada or their equivalents in Europe or Japan. Well then, yes, yes I accept. $300M in exchange for my general reputation (being known as a violent chap for the rest of my days) and my safety in America is a fair deal. Hell, even if I'm not allowed to touch an M-rated or equivalent game for the rest of my life I'd still accept. Many of my favourite games and many more that I want to play before I die are T or less.

Fairly Simple, yes, I'd do it and then use my new found influence to simply change what qualifies a Game for M to qualifications for T. Everybody comes out happy except for Mr. Thompson.
I doubt that would work, but if it did then this is a brilliant idea.

EDIT 2: Also, do consider that if you say no, he'll probably just ask someone other hardcore gamer who is less than honest.
In that case, I'd say yes, but sabotage the hell out of our efforts.

Well, do consider that the point of the hypothetical isn't that this could happen. The point is more about the morality than the situation. Would you run the high risk of sacrificing video game industry in addition to your personal integrity to have (just about) anything you wanted?

It all really depends on where exactly the line is on "realistic." There things that are worth trading M-rated video games for. World peace, end to world hunger, etc.

Where is the line?

Let's assume that the line is drawn at about the value of winning the three hundred million plus lottery.

I'd ask for Christina Hendricks on a platter of lingerie and hypnosis guide books.

But I wouldn't do it.

Seriously, I wouldn't do it for all of the...
fuck it

I'd do it.

I'd say "You may go plough yourself, good sir, for I am not testifying against one of my own passtimes. Also, forget about insisting about your foul, obsessive nightsoil of a crusade against video games, or I will call the police and have you get off my property." whilst sporting an overly exaggerated British accent, a cup of tea and a monocle. That'll teach him that gamers can be refined, intelligent and calm people.

In short: Jack Thompson can go f* himself, that crazy nutjob.

Well, firstly, why in the hell did he come all the way to Australia to talk to someone who doesn't care about anything America does unless it has to do with a liked series. Secondly, he could offer me the whole damn world & I still wouldn't help the man out. lastly, if I did accept, it would be to try screw over his chances completely.

"Wait you said illegal in America right? I'm English, why should I care about what's sold in America! Come on Jack let's go ban those evil games!" Then as soon as he turns to exit my house I hit him over the head, knocking him unconcious, and stash him somwhere he can never do any harm. Can't have somebody like ruining gamer's fun now can we?
I was just about to yell at you :3

You're sitting in your home one day enjoying a relaxing game of when suddenly, the doorbell rings. You open the door to find none other than Jack Thompson. He explains that he's been re-barred and that he's about to start a trial which, if he won, would make M-rated video games illegal in the United States.

He needs your help.

Just as you're about to slam the door on his face, he explains that he has a proposition. He will give you just about anything you want. He says that he can rig the next mega millions lottery in your favor, guaranteeing that you win the massive three hundred million plus dollar prize. Or, he can give your career instant success thanks to "people he knows." Are you a writer? Your next novel is a bestseller. You could be the CEO of the company you work at. An actor? Congratulations, you've just landed the lead role in the biggest film production of all time. Think of Jack as a realistic genie who offers one wish.

To do this, you have to testify in front of the Supreme Court against video games. You need to publicly tell the world that video games made you a violent person, that they ruined your life, that it "changed" your friends, that you can't quit, and that you believe in anyone in support of video gaming is either corrupted by society or a liar.

If you do this, you're just one of Jack's line-up of several witnesses. His case is surprisingly strong. If you agree to testify, his case becomes a lot stronger. With you on board, Jack's victory becomes the most likely outcome. If you don't testify, then Jack's chances are seriously gutted.

In other words, if you do not testify:
Jack wins: 20%
Jack loses: 80%

If you do testify:
Jack wins: 80%
Jack loses: 20%

So, the question is... do you put basically the entire video game industry in jeopardy for the chance of a life time? What do you do?

Addendum: There is now way out. You can't testify, take the reward, and then recant. Also, Jack has found a way to make what he's doing completely legal, so you can't turn it around him. There are no loopholes.

EDIT: He's not lying to you. You'll both get what you want. This is entirely yes or no.

EDIT 3: Where's edit 2? Yeah.
yep, i can always buy Mature rated games when i am an adult, I don't play that much right now, and I'd love to be able to do courses that were I can make more of an impact on the world, I'd love it for a wish of mine to come true, and also, He might not win, so does it really matter/ After all, if I were able to do this, i could change the world, and i could get into a collage of my dreams/ my girlfriend could. So yes, i'd testify

I would invite him into my house, then instantly shoot him. When I am at the courts (as I undoubtedly will be), I'll claim that he showed up at my house a crazed madman and trying to attack me. I had no choice but to shoot him. There would be plenty of evidence to back me up, what with the trouble he has given the court system and the mad ranting he has done.

When I win the court case, I will sign with a publisher to write a book about my experiences and make millions selling it.

... What?

No I'm not a whore and would never betray my beliefs and ideals for some shiny door prizes.
But I would testify the he's buying his witnesses.

I'd refuse to testify.
Or ask him to give me 1k dollars for every cell of every organism of every planet in the universe.
Including the dead ones.
That is so outlandish that it would make him shut up and walk away.

Laugh and slam the door in his face, since it's apparently only M rated games and I live in Australia.
I know that whatever happens over there affects us over here, but honestly, there's no way he could win, since it would be a stifling breach of people's freedoms.
