Can't they just change the title? Rather than make us shudder at the thought of "THESE guys are going to try and be the Three Stooges?" we could thing "O, hey, these three guys are going to be in a Three Stooges-esque movie. This could work out!"

I don't blame the guys who will be in it. I won't blame the guys who make it. Unless the movie sucks, in which case I will blame them. However, as of right now, I DO blame the guys who decided it was better to go for a fast cash-grab on name value.

The Three Stooges were one of a kind(or 3 of a kind...), please, just let them lie. It just won't be the same. It won't have the same charm. It'll just crap all over the memory of the Stooges.

This really makes me sad.
6, there six Stooges over the years. Moe was the only Stooge to be in it across the board. Larry joined the Vaudville show 3 years after Moe and Shemp were with Ted Healy.
Oh really? Huh. I knew about Shemp, but didn't know about Ted.
Well, Ted wasn't actually a Stooge and he only worked with them while they were still doing Vaudeville. I got all this off wiki.

I'm glad the Stooges aren't alive to see this...
There was a second troupe of Stooges that performed in the 1970's that didn't have any of the original actors in it. I really don't think they would care.
Yeah, and no one remembers that second troupe today... that should tell Hollywood something. Namely, that we were probably smarter in the seventies, because this reboot is probably going to be a bigger success than those guys you mentioned.

This. Do you guys remember a movie called Brain Donors? I think it came out in the early nineties. It was a Marx Brothers-esque comedy all through (John Turturro was a mustacheless Groucho if I ever saw one), but the name Marx wasn't even remotely mentioned in it.

Now, I personally liked that movie, especially because when I watched it I had never heard of the Marx Brothers and the film sparked my interest in them. But even if you don't like it, it deserves props for not going for the easy money associated with the name. Or maybe they simply couldn't use the name because of copyright issues...

Oh, well, anyway, that was in the nineties, before the world ended... and we used to think those were dark times for pop culture...

Oh god, who here is willing to bet that its not even going to be slapstick, just them doing random assholeish stuff? It seems pretty likely.

At this point, I wouldn't bet against it.

Well, I can kind of understand Johnny Knoxville. Jackass is kind of like modern slapstick; it is all physical comedy after all.

That being said: who the fuck thought this would be a good idea? Yeah, it's funny to look back on the classics. But old-style slapstick just doesn't do it for a modern audience the same way it used to.

being from australia, i have seen most of Shane Jacobson's stuff. I cant really picture it, but if this is the true cast, id see it just to see Johnny and Shane in a movie together.. never thought id see the day haha. Shane is the only reason i was top gear australia, he only started it on season 3. before that i didnt even know there WAS an australian version. its not bad, just...different.

TheWrap reports that the project will have an unusual format, as "the plan is to divide the PG-rated film into three, 27-minute segments driven by physical comedy."
I was ready to dismiss this entire thing as a fiasco waiting to happen until I read that. Hollywood tends to botch things when they take a 30-minute show idea and stretch it out to an hour-and-a-half (see: "Rocky and Bullwinkle" and most "SNL" movies), but sticking to the original Stooges format and just making 3 parts out of it could work well. Not sold on the actor picks just yet, but I'm willing to give it a chance for the unconventional format.

HA, HA, HA! TERRIBLE. Hollywood, every now and then, you just make me laugh with your stupidity. Who thinks this would be a good cast?!

The Three Stooges is wonderful source for tributes and parodies but I'm certainly skeptical of a reboot. If they're trying to cast three people to be Moe, Larry, and presumably Curly I think it will bomb . . . but if it's three people doing Stooge-inspired humor it might work . . . probably not, but it has a chance.

I do like that they're movie is split in to three parts, I think the Stooges did better with their shorts than their full-length movies.

Im willing to admit that Im rather hopefully that this will be good even though I've never heard of the 3rd wheel(the Aussie Fellow) before. And this coming from a big fan The 3 Stooges. I'll be willing atleast to watch a trailer before I pass judgement. Hell as long as it doesn't look like shit odds are I'll be going to the threater to see it anyway

It reminds me of, I think, Stewart Lee's comments about Steve Martin doing the remake of the Pink Panther 'because, well, no-one's really nailed that part have they? I think I can really bring something to the part that Peter Sellers just didn't manage to do well enough.'

Really? You think you can do the Three Stooges better than...the Three Stooges?

I can sometimes see the point of a remake, or a reboot, of a forgotten or outdated movie, but I'd say a fair number of people have heard of the Stooges, and the old stuff stands up well on its own, putting in 3d with some D List reality 'celebs' probably isn't going to add a fresh layer of gold onto their legacy.

However, despite him being quite a smart political satirist and not a slapstick comedian, purely on looks, contact Andy Zaltzman!

Yeah, that potential cast list does not exactly dispel any preconceived notions I might have regarding just how much this movie is going to suck; if this is good I will be absolutely astonished.

But then I'm generally opposed to Hollywood grotesquely reanimating old material because nobody has any original ideas to begin with, so I always thought a Three Stooges film would be terrible - when your default operating position on this sort of project is abject pessimism, you're almost never wrong!

Because 99% of remakes are horrible.

Whether or not this is true, I don't know. But it made me feel a little better.
