I used QuickPwn. Went really well, no problems and took less than 15 minutes. Just remember to back up your iPhone before you start, so that it will be easy to reverse the jailbreak if anything happens.

Jailbreak an iPod?
Y'wot?
MY thoughts exactly. I read the title and thought someone used an iPod to break out of prison or something.

Could you send me the link you used? Just to be safe..

And whats better, a tethered break or untethered?

Search "dinozambas" on youtube. He makes videos for all sorts of ipod & iphone related stuff. I used his videos when I jailbroke my ipod touch 1st gen. It worked like a charm.

It makes paid apps free, it better organizes your apps, and you can do more customization wise (backgrounds, themes etc..)

I just followed the instructions of the program, but if in doubt it's better to follow a tutorial. (Easily found on google or youtube) I would definitely go for untethered.
*edit* Not sure if a link to a jailbreak program was against the rules, so I'll just PM it to you.

If I remember right, jailbreaking an ipod makes apps free and removes all the DRM crap apple loads it with.

It's amazing how many people haven't heard of this before! It's not just paid apps for free, you can do ALL KINDS of stuff with a jailbroken iphone/ipod touch. I have a gba emulator, snes emulator, I can sync my ipod wirelessly, I have a flash plugin for Safari; it's really amazing how much Apple doesn't let you do with so much potential in those little devices.

Jailbreak I am to be assumed is where you illegally break constraints and/or safeguards of your device. It's akin to case-modding a console, or Haxing Steam. Am I right?

i don't see the point of jailbreaking an ipod, not much things you can do with the apps really unless you want to steal them

Did this a few days ago, Use a program like quickpwn, I used custom firmware made myself, but I have a fairly advanced knowladge of such things and I still miffed it the first time, so use Qickpwn. Make sure you get winterboard ;)

Isn't that illegal?
well it sounds awesome, so yeah its probably illegal
No its not aplle just want you to think it is, they can by no means currently procsocute you for it. It jsut viod the warrenty, in which case you need it fixed jsut restore it to factory settings and send it in.

Your not stelaing anything, you dont get the app store apps free, Its installs new software rather than speciallised web pages, used Cydia and Installer, you can get an N64 Emulater for it. And lots of other software.

You can only jailbreak the iPhone and iPod Touch, as of what it is, unless I misread that. LOLWUT?
