Alright, excuse me for the awful title, but we all know that boss battles are an integral part of the act of gaming. However, you never want to be asleep when facing the fate-deciding battle...so...

I ask you my Escapistkin. Do you listen to the music in the game when fighting a boss, or do you play your own choice of tunes(via the console player, stereo, etc)?

And if so, what is your personal favorite(s)?

My own would have to be the boss battle music for FFVII. Maybe not best from all games ever, but I believe it's the best generic boss battle music around in terms of Final Fantasy. ^^

I tend to listen to the in game music. It usually suits the situation.

Game music, because it usually fits the situation or the atmosphere.
But recently, I've been playing this song every time my team wins in MW2 multiplayer, and I intend to listen to it after every great victory, whether single player campaign ending/boss battle or multiplayer epicness:

I play games while I'm awake. I seem to do better that way, and don't need to listen to music.

But more OT, Fallout 3 is a fun experience, noticing that "Butcher Pete" has just come on as I'm cutting up my latest victims for some delicious food.

Best boss music would have to be the Necromancer boss from Castle Crashers, an amazingly entertaining XBLA title.

I tend to listen to the in game music. It usually suits the situation.

This. Generally speaking. Only if the game has no music and has no important audio cues (eg. the insane gibbering of the kamikaze grunts in ODST is super important), then I will put on music. Forza Motorsport 2, I believe, is the only game I've played music to. Wait, I think I also put music on in Diablo 2 whilst grinding, back in the day.

The music with the game, if the game designers are half way competent then it's there for a reason.
