Bad news folks.

If the earthquake, tsunami, radition leaks, and the following large casualty's weren't enough, it seems a national icon and international geek momument was one of them:

I don't know if this is real, but if it is, I hope they repair it.

My thoughts and best wishes go out to all in japan.

I'm not going to lie though, I am more concerned with the various game and anime devolpers (anyone know if toriyama is OK?) there than most others, I am a human being, we all have biases.

EDIT:

Seems that pic was from a few years back when it was relocated.

Still think it's not in good shape.

If the earthquake can do that much damage to japan, with all of it designed to withstand earthquakes, i'd imagine that the statue wouldn't make it.

Damn, I didn't realise the effects were so wide spread geographically speaking. I'm not so fussed that a giant gundam got knocked over (what with thousands dead and all) but things really do seem to be getting worse before they're getting better...
Seriously, smart money says the cracked reactors melt down next. Not a good day in the land of the rising sun.

Clearly, this is the greatest loss.
They have no protection against the kaiju now.

We can only imagine the diabolical plots that are scheming around the local monster populi.

Seriously though, I get that this is minor compared to the loss of life, but still saddening. It's like if the statue of liberty got knocked down.

Is it just me, or is the sky slightly darker in the area where the gundam's upper body was?
Combined with the fact that I can't find any mention of it on the internet aside from an article on igeektrooper that has been removed, I think this might be shopped.

That image is actually from a while back. Some sort of accident.

I know, who cares about the thousand or so dead and the billions, nay trillions of dollars in damage or the millions without power or running water, or the hundreds of thousands who will be homeless due to the damaged nuclear power plants making the areas around them uninhabitable radiation death traps.

No, all that clearly pales in comparison to the loss of a statue of a giant robot.

*facepalm* I find this topic in poor taste.
Is joke, yes? Please tell me this is a joke. You don't really think we're serious.

Right??!?!

Nooooooooooooooo! Is there no God?!

>.>

Let's worry about Gundam statues AFTER Japan's got its nuclear powerplants sorted and the whole 'thousands dead' thing has passed, shall we? Kinda down on the priorities list, though as a minor news item it does warrant reporting, I guess.

Well I guess those ridiculously elaborate robots don't work out so well in real life after all.

Should've picked a mech with a bit more toughness!

To those telling me that the topic is in poor taste, I undertsnand that the mass deathes and nuclewr issues are more of an issue.

I just thought it'd be a good thing to tell you all minor things.
