I've recently upgraded my Ubuntu distribution to Karmic Koala with the rest of the world, but due to a small mishap I've got to reinstall Java for Mozilla Firefox. However, I'm having trouble installing it. I've gone and looked in Synaptic Package Manager, but there's no Java for a 64 bit computer (which is what I've got) and the files from the official site don't install properly, even going through the terminal with sudo. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanks! I got it from 4chan.

EDIT: I'm also having trouble watching some of the videos on this site, namely the opening for the Japanese porn game. Do those use Java too, or is that a flash problem?

yeah go for the 32 bit package of java, it shouldn't matter

as for the movies it's a flash issue

i have 32 bit java installed on arch linux and it works fine, even had no problem with it on gentoo

I've tried installing 32 bit programs in the past and all I get is an architecture error (Especially with .deb files) and the 32 bit Java from Synaptic does nothing.

EDIT: I'm now suspecting that I've tried to install the development tools. Oh dear. I'm now installing the plugin version, which looks a lot more like what I want.

Great Success!

I've installed the plugin and removed the dev tools. After a browser restart, both the Java and video plugins have cleared up so that's all okay. Thanks for the help guys!
