Well the fiddle player in Django's band is terrific (He makes the band I think) and he isn't considered bluegrass is he? He is also a great guitar player and the trumpet player isn't half bad, so it's not just the fiddle player.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a purist, but it looks like there's a lot of good artists/groups being thrown around on this thread. Hope you find some more to listen to.

"Minne" is good, but it gets on my nerves sometimes.

I should also mention that I like "Midnight the stars and you" by Ray Noble and "Sitting on top of the World" by Al Jolson but I've yet to find any other good songs by them.


EDIT: And I also like "Anything Goes" by Cole Porter.

Miles Davis (Trumpet, seriously recommend as his style underwent VERY distinct changes through his life)

Arrghh there's so much, I would end up going forever if I kept putting the ones that came into my head.

Pretty much everyone I've put is, or has played, pretty straight-ahead bop jazz I realise, and there's lots more players out there of various styles but that would take far too much effort. Hope it helped.

I downloaded a file that has 80 jazz/swing songs on it (including all the songs from Fallout3).

Glen Miller's Over the Rainbow is much better than the Wizard of Oz version.

You should be thinking less about jazz artists to look into and more into jazz as a whole. If I've found out anything worthwhile from trips to my favourite restaurant (The New Orleans cafe) it's that jazz is a style which is very welcoming to newcomers due to it's origins of being less mainstream for a long time before the style was finally discovered out the blood and bones music bars of the Southern states...*Ahem*. If I were you I'd get started on guys like Cole Porter and Roy Brown, then venture into the world of the Blues.
