Jazz

Do people listen to jazz any more? I'm just wondering. I do a little, but perhaps it's because its become a commonplace concept for me and I am simply ignorant to its possible absence in other situations.

It's sort of like how I don't know anything about heavy metal, because I was never exposed to it, and haven't gotten up to really thinking about it much.

Well I listen to gypsy jazz stuff like Django Reinhardt if that counts.

Depends on your definition of 'jazz'. I've heard Frank Sinatra described that way, and I listen to him a lot.

I love me some Jazz, especially Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, and Marcus Millers work as of late.


Jazz hasn't been a mainstream form of music for nearly half a century, which may be
attributed to the fact that most jazz-heads than I've met have been musicians, which most people aren't.

Also, "Jazz" is a term that is extraordinarily flexible. The first generation of Jazz and the current generation Jazz is like Deep Purple compared to Modern Heavy metal. The music of the former creates the essential elements, but everything else is ultimately flushed out and combined with other forms of music to create the latter.

I listen to fair bit of Dixie Land and Big Band stuff. I tend to prefer the older music in the ilk of Louis Armstrong and Glen Miller, but I've taken a taste to the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and a few others. I still listen to a fair bit of swing music which I guess in borderline Jazz.

It sounds much more electronic and has a very un-syncopationed rhythm, although the keys sound very Jazz fusion-ish

I like some Jazz every once in awhile. I don't listen to it often but I do like it.

Sure, and I tend to listen to a wide variety of stuff that could be consider jazz. From West Coast, to Trad, through BeBop, and New Orleans Funk with a stop at Bitches Brew along the way.

It's not as popular or as widely known as before, but I still think it's a very likeable genre if people'd just give it a chance. I play jazz myself, otherwise it doesn't really fit in with the other stuff I listen to. If it wasn't for my bass, I wouldn't have tried jazz in the first place. But when you play an instrument like that, it's either playing a badly adapted cello part or a really boring bass line. Or jazz.
