Does anyone feel like he might be a bit overhyped?
Erm... no, you might like to go and look at Williams and Toyota, who also brought split level diffusers to Australia, you might also like to note their crappy results. It's one part on a car of thousands and it wasn't a championship winning anything.
I genuinely don't understand why people are ragging on Button over his car. Nobody questions Hamilton's ability despite 10+ years of Mclaren financed best-of-everything equipment.
Button's won six races this year and scored at all but one, that's a better record than Hamilton last year or Raikonnen the year before. He's been part of the team that developed the car, then he's made the best posible use of it. Even when it didn't give him a crushing advantage he stayed consistent and got good results.
Put it another way, at the Brazil gp yesterday Button went from 14th to 5th, Barrichello went from 1st to 8th in an identical car, even without the puncture Button had got in front on speed. If it's purely the car, why didn't Barrichello finish second at all the races Button won and why has he gone from ahead of Button to behind him all those times this year?
He's spent nearly ten years running around in sub-standard machinery (either as number 2 driver or in BAR/Honda's case, being ignored by management who 'knew best') and finally this year he got a car to match his abilities.
He's earned his championship and then some.
Although it must be said that the Yoda like influence of Ross Brawn clearly plays a role, any driver he works with seemingly gains brilliance, best car or not.
