In case anyone around here hasn't heard yet, Jeremy Soule's started a Kickstarter to fund his first symphony album. Soule's one of my favorite composers alive (huge TES fan of course) and his Kickstarter is doing quite well thankfully. Just a few days ago he did a radio interview. Really interesting stuff:

So yeah, I'm pretty excited. It's always really cool to see people in the industry climb to new heights like this.

Beyond that I have a question for you all. Who are your favorite composers/performers/etc. in the game industry? Besides Soule, I love Jack Wall and Sam Hulick's work on the Mass Effect series and was sad to see Wall wasn't a part of ME3's arrangements. Also a big fan of Shōji Meguro's work on Persona 3, 4 and Catherine.

I'm a massive fan of Marty O'Donnell and Koji Kondo's work. Marty O'Donnell's music has a sense of Gravitas I haven't really heard anywhere else and Koji Kondo's has so much charm to it. Regardless of whether or not you like the games their work is in you have to love the music. :)

It's incredible!

I remember the first time I ever heard the beautiful sound of Auriel's Ascension play during Oblivion while wandering. I sprinted to my computer to see who composed the game

I hate to be a copycat here but my favorite composers are gonna have to be Jeremy Soule, Jack Wall, Sam Hulick. All of them composed great soundtrack to great games.

What about Harry Gregson-Williams, Michael McMann and Jesper Kyd? Those guys are amazing as well.

Soule and Kondo are probably my favourites. There are a few others who do really good stuff too, like Jesper Kyd and Gary Schyman, whose work in the Bioshock games is fantastic. I can't really think of any other noteworthy and prolific game composers though. There's a ton of great original game soundtracks out there, but they're not often done by people who have done much else, or are well known.
