Jocks and Gaming

It has come to my attention for a while now that a lot of jocks are becoming "gamers". This annoys me because they suddenly act like it's ok to act like this. It is not ok I mean sure they can do what they want its a free country (at least in my country). But it makes me angry to see them act like the very people that they have pushed around and made fun of since the begining of modern society.

EDIT: ok I think I may have said this whole thing wrong from the beginning I don't hate others trying to be gamers I welcome it but it's difficult when one minute they are talking about like counter strike with you then the when someone else shows up they jump up and start to act like they have no idea what you're saying

I don't know maybe it's a bit more of a personal experience for me

EDIT 2: why the hell do you all think that I want everyone who plays a sport to be murdered on the spot? For Christs sake I play a sport to but that wasn't what I meant to say in this thread

I can see how this proverbial 'it's alright now, you're cool too' might come across as a slap in the face to more 'hardcore' gamers since they didn't go through the same social exclusion and angst we did yet they can still play nice with us (it's even worse is said 'meathead' gave you abuse previously) but I still don't think it's a major issue.

No not like that exactly it's kind of hard to explain but people who would any day of the week make fun of you and pick on you for playing a video game but then they go home and playing halo for 4 hours. It just doesn't make sense.

I get what you're saying, that it seems hipocritical for the same group of people who used to make fun of us for gaming, to then turn around and take up gaming as their own. However, I also think you're bordering on some sort of gamer-elitism here. Maybe instead of getting angry, you could try to use the newfound common ground to mend the bridges between two previously distinct social groups?

Well I was never picked on either in school but had friends who had gotten the crap beaten out of them by people exactly like this and that is why I am so bothered by this.

You know, it's alright. Because they just seen the good ol fun they missed out on hating something for the sake of looking cool in front of other people missing out.

Know how many jocks that terrorized the school when they hit college find out that not only does no one care about their high school football games but if they push or attack someone they will be arrested and thrown in jail? Growing up and having to accept being a bully now equals assault and battery and 3-5 in jail. They aren't accepted by acting better than everyone else so they come around.

Still only time I denied a Jock into my gaming circle he show up to dnd wearing a wizard costume acting like a butt tard.
Funny since he showed upto hang with one of our female gamers and let's say, she never talked to him again.

You talk as if all jocks are evil and all gamers are good. I had some friends in high school who were jocks and also hard core gamers and geeks. They loved anime as well. I knew some gamers who picked on me because I was fat. There are assholes on both sides of the fence, not just one.

you mentioned d&d. There is a difference between D&D and Halo or Madden or whatever people play nowadays. One is more accepted than the other, publicly, so of course they're cool with meeting up with their bros and / or brahs and gathering round the TV to play Halo.

plus there isnt much in the way of nerd groups... groups have personal nerds

and just to rub it in a bit more jocks are hated as they have the smallest once of school spirit. do not support your school. it is not good.
