I suppose only time will tell, though to be fair - if it really is Daikatana 2, he better deliver.

John may have changed, though. The Ion Storm Romero would've been yelling "I'm doing something that'll make you my *****!" from the rooftops. The new, older Romero seems more subdued... perhaps he's learned his lesson?

Okay, yeah, it's a bit of a joke, but I also think it speaks to the man's enduring fame that the mere fact he's doing something, even though we have no idea what, is worth talking about. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but look at it this way: If, a few years from now, this turns out to be the first public step toward the creation of the next Doom (figuratively speaking, of course) then we'll be able to say, wow, we were there, and we've got the snide commentary to prove it.

And I always thought Daikatana was more a victim of extreme overhype than of any real awfulness. Anyone who says it's the worst game they've ever played is fortunate that they've never played any actual bad games.

Agreed Daikatana was a nice lil game, it would be nice if he worked on the next doom protect maybe it will be less of corridor shooter engine test and more of a real game.....

If its another Quake, I will be so happy...but only if it goes back to its roots and does what it does best. Killing stuff!

Tho...using Q2 item belt and weapons with alt fire and the same level designs of Q1/Q2 set in a quake 1 nightmare world with a hub'd layout(which thematically can work for hexen 3).....OMG...yes yes yes yes!!!!!

Epileptic maybe, AFAIAC Quake 2 was the best of the whole series with Q1 being 2nd and Q3 a cheap knock off MP game......Q4 is just horrible from all standpoints....

Daikatana is not the worst game, but I'd definitely call it awful. It has a lot of bad elements.

About one third of the weapons are suicidal, another third are just poor which leaves one third that approaches being good weapons. The basic pistol in episode 4 ended up looking quite good in comparison despite not being any more powerful than pistols in most FPS games at that time, it's just that most weapons are worse.

Two AI companions to babysit. Extra fun is to be had when they get stuck somewhere when you try to lead them to the exit.

Then there's temporary annoyances which doesn't persist, but there's a lot of them. For example, the beginning massively abuses the color green and has a lot of small enemies when the only weapons you have is the glove and the Ion Blaster. If you're playing multi-player, they will switch target seemingly at random causing them to move around erratically.
