Joining the Escapist.

It might strike a bit odd to me since I'm quite good at figuring out websites, but it took me longer to figure out how to even make a post on the Escapist then to get two badges,
Whoop de doo I set an avatar.
Fiddle de dee I have candy.
Candy? So far what I've done on the Escapist is sit around and watch Zero Punctuation way past my bedtime, but I get a badge for apparently doing nothing. Shouldn't you get a badge for at least getting 100 views on a video or something?
Although I do appreciate getting badges because it feels like I've accomplished something without doing anything (Yay) but on the other side of things it seems pointless, it's like the Escapist is giving out badges to make their members (Mostly consisting of Nerds & Noobs, from what I've seen anyway.) feel better about themselves because they've joined THE BEST WEBSITE IN ZEH WORLD. Or they just have a lack of confidence that needs a boosting, either way, I don't get it.
And that's probably why I'm a noob and I have no business being here. Or anywhere else for that matter...
In fact I've never written a Forum or post in my life and because of the Escapist I'm writing one right now.
Good job Escapist, you've successfully made me look up from my tablet and write a post.

Really mate? You made a post just to call us noobs and nerds with low self esteem issues? If you'll allow me to touch on all of your points.

1) The Candy badge is awarded for watching the ZP episode that came out on Halloween week. It was part of the sites countdown to Halloween, that's all. You're not being rewarded, the staff members just decided to make a badge to be festive. The Avatar badge was created because you'd be surprised how few people actually decided to make an avatar. Heck, these complex .gifs were no where near as popular when I first joined the site and neither were standard avatars in general. Plus, it is a great way to introduce the badge system to users.

2)We do have badges ranging from the amount of groups you're apart of, to the total number of replies you earned in a thread, to the amount of posting you do and even to the amount of people who add you as a friend. In fact, there are easily over 300 badges, maybe more, I haven't really counted.

3) We're no where near as snobby as we were back in 08-09. Trust me, I'm proud to be a member here, but I'm not gonna belittle other people for not being a part of a public site that is open to everyone. But I'm also not gonna take that claim lying down. Stereotypes aren't taken kindly, regardless of what group they belong to.

Hope that answers all your questions and I hope I set a good first impression for the general user base. We're not all 25 year old shut-ins who live with their mother, nor are we bratty 15 year old teenagers looking for a place to vent our angst. We're normal people who live normal lives who all happen to come here to pass the time. We're not special and we would prefer it if you could please hold off on insulting a group of people who you barely know.

Besides that, I hope you have a good time here on the Escapist.

No mate I think you're mistaken.
But thank you for letting me know what the badges are for, that had me utterly confused.
I was also basing my experience on here from my friends account, that's how I found out about ZP, me and my chum ran into a barrel of monkeys full of Noobs,Trolls and Nerds, not to say bad nerds at least some of them defended us from the freaking trolls.
After signing on it would have been great if the Escapist had a flipping tutorial so I could figure out some shi...stuff,
Other then that I wasn't insulting you, just the cold hearted pricks which got me writing the post.
I'll keep the things you've said in mind.
