I use a MadCatz FPS Pro wireless PS3 Controller, I prefer it over the 360 one.

It takes maybe a one time 45sec setup per game, but every once in a while comes a game in which the keys are bound wrong and it won't fix it, but those games are usually cheap indies.

If you get a program like Xinput, it basically takes the 360 layout that nearly all modern games support and maps it to ps3. In simple terms, any game that has native 360 controller support now has ps3 controller support. The program is free and it's easier than motionjoy, and the wireless part works as well assuming you have bluetooth.

You can also move the controller between computers and your ps3, just plug it into whatever device you want to resynch it to and hit the PS button, and it stays synched until you choose a different device.

That is where the 45 sec it takes to set up a game go, yes.

I use x360ce but they're all pretty much the same except for the Ui. As you said yourself , nearly all modern games support it so every once in a while a game (usually indie) comes which won't accept remapped keys (but it still works).

Xbox One's controller just got some unofficial patch so it can be used on PC. I reckon that one feels much better than X360.

I just echo the 360 over here - I'd personally choose Dualshock as I never used Xbox controllers, but PS3 needs aforementioned MotionInJoy or Sony's own drivers with all the hassle.

Otherwise get the Xbox 360 controller.

+1 to the 360 controller as well. In some cases, it makes a LOT of difference. The Batman Arkham games: runs great on my PC, awesome game. But the experience with the controller is SO much better than the keyboard. Also, in some cases, local co-op is eased with a controller, like Risk of Rain, Castle Crashers and Guacamelee.

This has never been funny even when used ironically. I have most of the consoles and a Gaming PC so I'm not just bitter.

Prepare yourself for a load of unnecessary stress and the possibility that you won't be able to run a few of the weirder more graphically demanding games like Witcher 2.

PC gaming is a shallow kind of gaming for the most part. The PC exclusives are usually not about the story or character development they are about the high score and how many of the other players you just killed. Or they are a generic "retro" 8bit sidescroller. People will tell you that Valve makes great story games and I guess half life is pretty good if you like shooting things in first person, but its a rare game among a whole midden heap of steam early access games and shit hipster 8bit offerings.


Buy a normal xbox 360 controller mine worked almost straight away after a quick driver install.

What I'm saying is, your rant is not only doing some major generalizing, it's also completely unnecessary.
I used that term because it's a funny way of calling pc gamers. I do not believe the pc is superior in every way.
So please take your ranting to a pc vs console threat.

I'm not telling you the PC isn't perfect I'm telling you the games are very different to console games, I just happen to dislike the typically PC games. I honestly believe its not a generalisation as I've been using a PC to game on for a while now. The master race thing has never been funny except for the one time when Yhatzee invented it, everyone else just made it cringe worthy.

If you can't deal with an opinion I suggest you stop making threads.

the games aren't "very different to console games", hell most games are ports of each other (either from pc to console or console to pc) so that statement is factually false. The one edge pc has over console in that regard is being able to tweak and mod your games to holy hell and back. you can say you're playing oblivion or skyrim, but many people would roll their eyes at playing vanilla, most people have 100+ mods running at any given time on those games.

If you can't deal with an opinion I suggest you stop making threads.

Microsoft promised the official driver, but it's not here as of now.
The fanmade patch works, last time I heard. Since I'm content with my current controller, I didn't look deep into it.

That is bullshit, as long as your PC was bought within the last couple of years, even if it's a lowend one you'll be fine running Witcher 2. My i3-3220 + HD 7770 + 8gb RAM setup has no problem running it on medium settings.

360 controller is sufficient. I use a wired one and it works well enough - though it seems that the the sticks don't always return to the deadzone when I let go of them lately (it did work great for years though). If you feel like investing a bit more, Razer has some nice high-quality controllers with both full X-input support (for new games) and full DirectInput support (for old games). If you like the Playstation controller design, you may want to get one of the latest Logitech controllers.

I don't have an XBox One, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to get an XBox One controller for the PC? I'm particularly interested because I hate the 360 controller's D-Pad, and it seems that this generation they've finally realized that Nintendo's patent on sensible cross-shaped D-Pads expired years ago.

When I look at PC game controllers in stores, they all still seem to have those crappy cross-on-a-circle D-Pad, like none of the PC gamepad makers have gotten the memo yet.

If the comment about unofficial patches is true, you can just plug and play. Roughly half of the new games are lazy console ports, so it'd go a long way to make them even playable.

I would suggest NOT going for a controller

I suppose there are some games that work better with it, for sure, so I'm not sure if my struggling along with mouse/keyboard in these situations is just because I really HATE controllers, or some other factor.

Stick to the mouse and keyboard (quick group controls - ctrl+1 and such - and lots of keys to have as shortcuts to numerous bits and pieces) unless there's a game you think you definitely couldn't play on a mouse/keyboard setup.
