I don't care if I'm not part of their target audience, their music sucks. They stink as musicians and the only reason they aren't on the street is because Disney wants to see just how much they can wring out of them and Miley Cyrus before they turn to drugs and are used up by the age of 20.

If I buy a CD, I should get my money's worth. If I spend $30 to buy a 2Pac, Gorrilaz, or Origa CD, I am getting my fucking money's worth!

What's Origa and where can I find it? If you like the Gorillaz you gotta have good taste :D

OT: That's part of the rage, they aren't popular because they're good, they're popular because they target an idiot demographic.

So, this thread is, in a way, redundant?

Thanks for the update.

Same about Twilight. It isn't aimed at you. GET OVER IT.

But yeah, I agree with on Jonas.

Does this apply to Twilight as well, then?

Yes. And we hate it for the same reason too.
Well ok I have some personal issue with it but that's a different topic for a different search bar disapproved thread :D

The problem with them isn't that they're bad, plenty of bands are bad, it's that they're everywhere.
Thats part of the issue I take with them, the other part is that while I'm indifferent to people who like their music, I find that their fans will lash out at those with other musical tastes, especially those who are fans of older music. I have some girl cousins and I know some girls back from high school who told me that I'm a moron for liking bands like Nirvana, Guns and Roses, Van Halen, and the Rolling Stones and that pretty much every band formed pre 2000 is shit. Its that smug, superior attitude that bugs me.

Well... I'm not the target audience for the Twilight Saga, but I can still say the writing is terrible and I hate it. Sorry for dragging Twilight into this...

Edit: Oops, sorry. This has been said a couple times. My bad.

To which I respond, why are you buying Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus CDs? If you don't like their music, don't buy their CDs.
The key word in that quote was "if". I am not implying that I do buy their CD, I am implying if I were to buy their CDs.

I like to think if I don't pay any attention to them they'll go away. So what I'm trying to say is...

YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM ISN'T HELPING.

Dammit, I know you know it isn't aimed at you and I know you still think they suck. Hell, I agree with you. But is complaining about how they suck helping? No. In fact, it's making everything worse. You're just rubbing salt in the wounds that you're making bigger.
/rant

Okay, now that that rant is out of the way let's come up with a solution.

The only solution I can think of is to not think about them, to ignore every little thing they do, and to pretend they never exist. I have been happy ever since I've started doing that.

PS: Sorry for the rant.

When the Beatles first came onto the scene, their target audience was teens. Did that make their music any less innovative or influential?
Harry Potter is a book series geared towards the younger demographics. Does that mean J.K. Rowling's not a good storyteller with a knack for appealing to everyone without being bland?
The original Batman animated series is a kid's show. Does that mean it didn't have solid storylines and high production value?

My point is that something can still be good even if the target market is specific, when said media in question takes the time to actually be of good quality and not play down to the intended audience. The Beatles appealed to the young crowd while constantly improving their style. J.K. Rowling gave us more mature content in her later books as her original readers got older. Batman: The Animated Series stretched the boundaries of what the networks would allow to show in a kid's cartoon in order to give us a show that trusted us to handle dark themes and didn't patronize us.

On the other hand, the Jonas Brothers are one-dimensional twerps with very little actual talent, books like Twilight are basically softcore porn for teenage girls, and recent kid's cartoons flatly refuse to give kids something meaningful and enriching to watch for fear of the network censors.

Two sides of the same coin, as some would say.

Yes, but someone who actually LIKES their music would be getting their money's worth, and what you or I think of it is immaterial to them.

I can have an opinion on something even if it's not targeted at me.

They're Disney's rottweilers.

I agree. A few years ago, I wold have probably loved them, but now I've matured and my music taste is better.
You have to remember they're signed by Disney. I liked Disney when I was about 8.
So they're not aimed at us, but we can still think they're a disgrace to music or whatever.
Much like soap operas aren't aimed at men really, but they still hate them.
