Host made joke about large woman.

Person thought it was bullying and encouraged people to bully him out of role.

Host left role due to pressure of bullying.

Good job.

My god, I had almost fooled myself into thinking the overreaction over "Sachsgate" (Holy Shit do people seriosly call it that?) couldn't get any bigger, but nope, it'll haunt this guy for the rest of his life. It's been 6 years, and it wasn't even bad to begin with.

Why? Why?

I just don't get it.

Man, I just can't roll my eyes hard enough. Nobody can. "A comedian that makes fat jokes?!? NO. Get outta here. No." He doesn't even make that many fat jokes. Come on, "She doesn't feel safe"? Really? To me, that says "no comedians" rather than "no Jonathan Ross."

And brining up the Sachs thing again? Come onnnnnnnnnnnn. I don't even understand why THAT joke was blown out of proportion the way it was. Wasn't that bad at all. It's weird how people focus on the jokes that aren't so bad. Frankie Boyle's most controversial jokes, the ones that get all the attention, are far from the worst. And, even worse, people start suggesting Charlie Brooker? I like Brooker more and I am on board with that, but... He has always been more offensive than Jonathan Ross. I don't get it, man! Did people just... Not find anything to complain about today? They see a guy go for a job that he really want (A job he's doing for free) and then shit on it because of a couple of things he's done in the past? A couple of fat jokes he told? A shitty prank call? I'm not his biggest fan; I think his work in comics is ok and I find him funny enough. What really bothers me about this is how much bullshit people are spouting.

The weird thing about the Sachs thing (I wont call it "Sachsgate") is it received more attention than the prank call to the hospital that Kate Middleton was in, which resulted in a woman's suicide. But that's a bit off topic.

Utter nonsense. I watched this break on Twitter and was absolutely fuming. Apart from the inherent hypocrisy of responding to bullying concerns with bullying, Ross is a huge sci-fi fan, and has often supported the community where other comedians and chat show hosts might mock it to get a cheap laugh. But no, he's not Felicia Day and once he got a bit silly with Russell Brand.

Seanan McGuire really needs to get a grip. I can't be the only person who took her complaints a bit less seriously when she followed them with a rant about how she'd volunteered to host the Hugos as well.

Good work, internet. Keep digging.

"A comedian said something mean about me, I don't feel safe."

I can't believe that stupid thing with Andrew Sachs still gets mentioned. It was so blown out of proportion.
The people bitching are so overly PC and seem to have little to no sense of humour.
Hope they get a boring, stodgy and monotonous presenter, like they seem to deserve.

"because Ross has past form for using women with weight issues as the butt of his humour. She says she doesn't feel safe, and I believe her."
That line was particularly face-palm inducing.

Another day, another group of PC idiots complaining because someone said something sort of mean years ago.

"She doesn't feel safe"

Fucking really? Over a fat joke that wasn't aimed at her? Absolutely pathetic. These people need to get some thicker skin.

I kind of hope there a people calling her fat on Twitter now to be honest.

I'm going to be frank.

What a bunch of Bellends.

The guy makes one joke in poor taste and now people won't shut the fuck up about it, my god.

Because I am absolutely sure none of those people have ever made a mistake.

It is quite sad though, I think Ross would have been an excellent host, as he actually has an interest in what is happening there.

I seriously do hope it gets cancelled so these gits realise that by doing this daft act, that theyre left loncon3 without a host. Or worse, I hope some no name gets it and botches the job.

You're not a comedian and that's the worst oxymoron I have ever seen, so don't go there (and no, sarcasm can't be applied here).

Oh no, someone stop the presses, a comedian said something bad to someone once. This is getting tired and boring, if you don't like a comedians content, don't listen to the fucking comedian. What he does on his shows and what he'd do up on that stand are likely going to be two entirely different things but nope, comedian said bad thing, comedian must be awful!

Ah yes, the old 'you're only funny until you make fun of me or someone close to me' brigade.

I mean, do you want comedians to do improv or not? Because every now and then they're going to be stuck for an idea and make a gag that comes across as in poor taste. Let it go through to the keeper and move on.

1. I'm not a comedian, but Jonathan Ross is (ostensibly). What's your point?

2. Oxymoron: A figure of speech containing two contradictory elements, such as "deafening silence".

"War might have a silver lining" is not an oxymoron, unless you define war as "a conflict with no upsides to anyone, ever". Which it isn't.

3. I wasn't being sarcastic. Or funny. It was an actual statement.

4. You seem to think that the "silver lining" would be "the death of these people". It's not. The silver lining would be that people grow a damn sense of perspective when it comes to "feeling safe".

Ah, the good ol' internet outrage machine, ruining yet another moment. But enough about this thread.

I don't really know who that guy is, but that's a fairly serious accusation leveled against him, and if that Twitter thread is any indication, he sounds enough of a fairly serious jackass to warrant it.
