JRPGs SUCK

I don't know if the games have aged well or not and I haven't even played them myself, but you could check out Persona 1 and 2 for PSP (PS1 game remakes). Or Persona 3 Portable for something more recent (very late PS2). You don't need the first two to understand the third in any capacity.

I'm playing Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky right now, and it's a really good game so far. I'd definitely suggest it if you don't really like modern JRPGs.

I'd also suggest Crisis Core, but only if you can handle the repetitive combat.

I actually recently completed TitS. It was the tits! Anywho I really hope to see the other 2 parts released soon, it sort of left at a cliffhanger.

Crisis Core was the first game I got with my PSP I really enjoyed it.

Jeanne d'Arc*, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions*, Disgaea 1/2*, Star Ocean: Second Evolution*, Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together*, Ys Seven, Yggdra Union, Knights in the Nightmare, and Hexyz Force.

I've only played the marked ones, but they should all be good JRPGs. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is also pretty fun and I'd put Persona 3 Portable up there as well if I didn't have a mediocre time with it. I did have a better time playing as the Female MC, but it was probably because I abhorred the battle system in that game.

I recently downloaded Final Fantasy VII off of the PSN. After hearing so many people talk about how it was an overrated piece of shit, I started playing it to see what the fuss was about. It was around the point of the motorcycle chase that I had to pause the game for a second and think: "What the %@&# are the haters talking about? This game is frikkin awesome!"

JRPG's tend to have thoroughly outlines their characterisation and have a very set story. I'm not going to plug 50+ hours into a story that I don't really have any control over.

Sorry to hear that. There's really no flaw whatsoever in having a set story, but I suppose not everybody has to accept that. You are missing out on some decent story's though.

Radiata Stories was acctually quiet good on PS2. an intresting mix RPG, tactics, and real time action rolled up into one. I think a perfect cross between the old Final Fantasy feeling and the Kingdom Hearts new feeling. I am some what saddened they didn't use this formula more often, exspecially in their more recent Final Fantasy releases.

i personally think that the game play mechanics seen in Radiata stories would of married well with the story and presentation of FFXIII. but oh well.

I've got nothing to recommend that's new, all new JRPGs on consoles have been nothing bad to me.

However PSP and GBA did have a decent sized library of titles to check out,

PSP- Jeanne D'Arc, Disgaea 1 and 2, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

GBA- Summon Night 1 and 2, Final Fantasy VI (improved over SNES), Golden Sun, Breath of Fire 2

PSOne- Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Final Fantasy Tactics, Brave Fencer Musashi, Megaman Legends 1 and 2, Final Fantasy VII

Genesis/Mega Drive- Phantasy Star II and IV, Shining Force I and II.

But yeah, nothing really recent I can recommend, I don't like the new stuff, it's a lot of angst.

Edit Do NOT get the War of the Lions for PSP, if you want that game on your PSP get the PSOne classics version on the PSN. The War of the Lions screwed up some of the midis in the music and every single move in that game is at 1/2 speed or slower and it makes things awkward. I bought it and wanted to microwave it, 30 dollars wasted.

The Mana Khemia remake for PSP: Mana Khemia Student Alliance was pretty fun to me. It's a turn based battle system similar to FF10, and also the character improvement system is also pretty similar to FFX (Kind of like the Sphere Grid). You gather materials (or have your teammates gather them in between certain points) and craft items. Some of the items you craft will allow you to continue your skill grid and learn stats and abilities. The combat involves chaining attacks the right way and filling up a burst meter to gain special attacks and whatnot. My description is probably half-assed and you should probably look it up if it sparked your interest. I have yet to finish the game since duodecim came out, but I have enjoyed every minute of it that I have played so far.

Damn, too late. I loved the PS version and still own it, but I decided to buy the PSP remake cause of some new features. I didn't even realize those problems. Think I only spent like 12 bucks on it though.

The rest either don't appeal, or I haven't taken the time to play.

Anyways, no problem there as I have the original Chrono Trigger SNES cart.

I got both Mana Khemias on PS2, but still haven't gotten around to playing them. The only Atelier title I have beaten was the first one Eternal Mana. I probably should get around to 2 and 3, both MKs and Atelier Rorona.

Damn, too late. I loved the PS version and still own it, but I decided to buy the PSP remake cause of some new features. I didn't even realize those problems. Think I only spent like 12 bucks on it though.

If you like it then that's fine, I love the game so any little defects I'll notice. I got to chapter 2 and sold the PSP version. I just couldn't take it.
