Jurassic Island - Would You Go?

If all major safety precautions stem from power, I am loathe to do anything related to it unless I have direct control.

I have successfully steered myself to the shoulder when my car has died. I can not do that if an airplane flames out, just like the Transasia flight this week.

So, a steady supply of electricity is the only thing keeping me safe from 'creatures' that every culture saw bones of and developed the idea of monsters from? Nope. I'm good. In fact, I'm on the picket line trying to outlaw that sort of thing.

Humankind barely handles the tech and the advances we make. Learn how to split the atom? Split the atom on top of people's heads and have their survivor's children still suffer from it. Learn about what actually create diseases? Harness it to make a deadly weapon. Fuck, we've been doing that since we learned the catapult and diseased bodies. Hell, learn language, use it to separate and spread hate since speech was perfected.

Dinosaurs? A creature that we never really came across of during our whole of history? Stupid idea.

I would go, if only to secretly plant explosives and end the threat to mankind. Everyone knows what happens when you leave J-Park style dinosaurs to their own devices. Basically the only ethical use of a 20 Mt nuclear device if there ever was to be one.

It's like security forces losng to a pack of stray dogs. But if we're talking J-Park style dinosaurs, not their real world likenesses, then bringing a few mercenaries and MBTs is pretty sensible.

If we're talking about real dinosaurs brought back to life somehow, then sure I'd go. If only because crocodiles don't frighten me in the wild(I think they're adorable, personally), so what's to fear from dinosaurs? J-Park dinosaurs however? Kill it with fire.

I'd watch a movie where over-the-top J-Park style dinosaurs take on battle tanks.

We already had a movie of humans on foot tried to take on dinosaurs .... so it's a logical progression. We go to tanks.

Then after that, attack helicopters vs. pteranodons.

I would wait a year or so after the grand opening, to see if shit does hit the fan. If all seems well. then sure I'll definitely go!

No security force on Earth will lose to Dinos. Sorry. What happened in JP 1 (movie and book... somewhat) IS pushing reality quite a bit.
What happened in JP 2 is insane. That T. Rex would not have lived more then 3-4 minutes. Was it fucking America? It would have taken a 5.56 or 30 to the face in a few minutes. Any other country, as soon as the police is there, the fight is over. They won. By default.

A hippo won't reliably be stopped by 5.56 (or even .308 win) rounds, so for a T-Rex, you'd probably need something along the lines of a .50BMG. Which civilians are allowed to buy in the US, of course.

Now, not sure how well the local police would be equipped to deal with a T-Rex normally. Of course, if you hear that a ship carrying one is going to visit your city, I'd imagine the police, probably military, would take some interest.

There is no good excuse for the mercenaries in JP2 to not be seriously tooled up, but then again, there are some rubbish PMCs in the world.

Deploy a few tanks and infantry. A chopper or two.

Eh, forget the tanks and even infantry. Civilian hunters in helicopters, armed with high powered rifles.

A T. Rex is not that much bigger then a hippo mass-wise. It was 4-5 tons. So as big as an elephant?

I know a single 5.56 wont stop it (less it is fired by someone good ) ... that is why I said like 30.

Dont underestimate even inaccurate volleys of small arms fire. And the effect on the dinosaur of hearing gunshots and extreme pain. Id say the police will handle it.

Wouldn't want to depend on 5.56mm against a T-Rex, though. 5.56mm won't reliably stop a charging bear. OTOH, presumably the local police would have sharpshooters with more powerful weapons even normally.

And this is assuming that the thing is in a position to get you. Doesn't matter what gun you have, if you are flying over it in a helicopter, it can't get you until it learns to shoot back.

Of course, the police would "win", in the sense that it ends up dead, but for police, winning means nobody gets hurt, dinosaurs excepted. If a dinosaur is running loose in a city, I don't want to hear that it will die of injuries, I want to hear that it goes down before injuring anyone, preferably without property damage.

The mercenaries in JP 2 and 3 were cretins. A 50. shot should to the head should kill the Spinosaurus and T. Rex easily.

Yup, .50BMG, M203, Minimi (I know, 5.56, but lots more of them), AT-4...some legal problems getting some of those, but your company breeds dinosaurs. Take it seriously.

I particularly like the bit in JP2 where the guy wanders off by himself to go the the toilet, tells one person who spends his time listening to his headphones (while sitting on the very edge of the group facing inwards) and doesn't initially mention to anyone he's missing when they all move off.

I LOVE IT! As far as movie "logic" is concerned, somebody could totally do that. In fact, I imagine that would be very easy in real life.
