Just a teeny tiny thing, i've been a member for a while, but not really got into the whole forum thing. I was wondering, the whole "Title" you get with your number of posts, what are the boundaries? I know they are probably somewhere on this crazy website but i just want to know.

Yes, im a Copy Clerk, told you i dont do much :)

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

No, it doesn't really. Although it is just a basic question and if you saw no point in it, then there was surely no time to reply but to get your post score up? Which shows you must at least have some form of interest in the matter.

I haven't found a list of them, but I think the top is Nobel Laurate.

If memory serves, you become a Nobel Laureate at 10,000 posts.

Apart from that, not a clue, and to be honest, does it really matter?

And you can now pretty much pick your own when you join the Editor's club, or what was it again.

It goes as far as Nobel Laurette, at 15,000 posts. I don't think there's anything beyond that.

Publishes Club members get a custom title.
We should really start demanding a new one, seeing as how more and more people are hitting 20k.

Yeah, the user groups has really accelerated the speed at which people get post counts like that. There should be more titles to reflect that. I remember Gone Gonzo actually meaning something and people thinking a certain banned member was crazy for having the amount of posts he had. I now keep seeing people I never even heard about reach insanely high post counts.

Makes mine look even more pathetic.

This is not to the confused with one of those many "oh god the nostalgia" posts. I quite like the Escapist the way it is now.

Like others above me said, Nobel Laurette is the limit.

Or you can customized your title from the Publishers Club. (Which I really want to do)

No it does not.

Post count means fuck all! Your posts are intelligent and funny, which is much better than a person with a shitload of posts who just posts trite.

I think they should just get rid of post counts entirely. Have them on your profile, but not on the forums. Because, I mean, they're pointless, really. There's no point to having them except for shallow people who judge others based on them.
Seriously man... whats the problem? I'm seriously starting to beleive you have some grudge against the counts. Like you vowed to one day get 1 million posts and then didn't so you're taking your revenge by having a go at a forum post :L

I have no particular problem with the post count themselves, it's just that a lot of people tend to make preemptive judgments about people based on their post counts, be they large or small.

Plus, there's really no reason for them. I mean, give me a concrete reason why the forum needs to display post counts?
Yeah i understand your point on the whole theory of quality over quantity. But getting rid of them all together? I think they should just be stuck there and kept there.

I think if someone is stupid enough to look at the post count and not the post itself then they dont deserve the right to have the internet. So we agree... i suppose?

They're names that go around the number of post counts you have.

They change roughly every couple hundred posts, for example Gone Gonzo is roughly 1,000 to 2,500 and it goes up from there.

If you're a Publisher Club member (Basically a paid subscription to the Escapist) then you can alter your title yourself. Such as Furburt's and my own for example.

I suppose we do. I mean, it's not a particularly pressing issue, I'm not going to actively campaign for it or anything.

Perhaps it's just me. It can get a bit annoying when the umpteenth person assumes you have no life because you have a high post count.
Duuuude! Check your post count! You must live on your computer or something!
Sorry, couldn't resist.

And now for a contribution. I think the titles are a nice touch but sort of lost on people who ignore the left side of their screen (i.e. the posters and their counts). I often do this, sometimes stumbling across a post that some jackass wrote only to have a look at the name and find out it was me.

Members of the Publisher's Club can customise their titles and users who are members of staff/ moderators/ competition winners/ contributors/ honourable mentions at last year's film festival will also get a second title in italics (or lose their post-count title if they're not a member of the Publisher's Club).

Whilst I do agree with you on the whole 'Post matters, not post count' thing, do bear in mind that arguing that it's useless therefore should be discarded could be inferred for a lot of stuff this forum displays. After all, according to archive, these forums managed to last over a year [http://web.archive.org/web/20070912134134/www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/] (the forums were added in July 2006) without avatars, badges, user profiles and only giving titles to staff members (and by the looks of things, post count was added before all those things as well, though that wasn't around at the start either).

If you're going to do some excessive poking around with those archives, do remember that the Wayback Machine (the site it is archived on) does have a reputation for sending people to the wrong times, so check the dates of the latest posts for reference of what time you end up viewing.

I agree. I remember before user groups existed. Then I was looking up at the post count of members like MaxTheReaper and NoMoreSanity. Now that I've reached the level of the ones I used to look up to, my title means nothing. On The Record? Pfft, fuck that, we've got User Groups now, gramps. Granted, I could use those, but I don't find much to chat about. I've gotten almost 6000 posts with only 1% of those being from groups.

But I've stopped looking at post counts and just look at how long the person has been a member.

Sorry, small niggling issue with that:
It's 0-9, 10-49, 50-99, 100-299, 300-399, etc.
I have a compulsion to correct people when they do that sort of thing, I'm sorry.

OT: Yeah, Zombie Fish pretty much hit the nail on the head there, those are the boundaries, and Publisher's Club members get a custom title.
That said, a new title may be in order, though there may be one waiting for certain people [www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/VaudevillianVeteran] who post [www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Sassafrass] far more [www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/NeonBob] than is healthy [www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Furburt] at 50K or even the nigh-on impossible to obtain 100K.
we'll just have to wait and see.
[sub]I'm guessing it'll be a while, but with Vaude's average of a little less than 5K per month, it won't be very long.[/sub]

We had post counts, post-count-based titles (and staff titles), and avatars when the forums launched. Join date was added a little bit later.

The only major changes we've made to that part of the forums since launch are the addition of the badges, and the little menu when you click on someone's name.

Huh, I can only see usernames and staff titles in the Wayback's archives [http://web.archive.org/web/20061113013808/www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.240], so that's where I was mistaken.

Blame faulty sources.

EDIT: The archives also seem to show post counts and avatars etc. later, but not in the earliest versions of the forums. Any real reason for this?
