This new's makes me dance with glee though i thought Bethesda would do something with the commonwealth though they still might and personally would like Bethesda and obsidian to combine there abilities and make Fallout 4 the ultimate fallout game unfortunately Chris Avellone and Todd Howard have different view's on RPG's sadly.

Here is hoping they get someone other than Bethesda to write the game. Like Obsidian.
+1
I won't buy the game if Bethesda is developing it. I fully accept that Fallout 3 is a good game (though with huge faults), but I personally hate Bethesda's take on the franchise.

Though the thought of seeing Boston lying in ruins is wonderful. Because, well...

Though I don't think the Commonwealth is as ruined as other parts of the US. Not sure on that, though. At least Fenway should be a demolished heap molerats use to poop on. That's fitting.

I'm still hoping for one held in a excessively coastal city, so i can have my post apocalyptic pirate dream come true.

Someone mentioned it to me, I googled it, and apparently they have been scoping out MIT.
I was hoping we'd see "The Commonwealth" and I'm assuming that will be a main faction and/or area.
God damn it, when is Seattle, Washington gonna get it's break?

I saw some concept art for the Fallout version of Seattle and it looked fucking amazing. Who WOULDN'T want to adventure around the ruins of a Retro-future cyberpunk megacity trapped in a nuclear winter?

C'mon, not only is that incredibly cool as the entire environment consists of skybridges between superstructures, but the NCR finally get that nuclear winter they all have been wanting!

ALL OF THEM. ALL THE TIME.

Boston is coastal. The colonials weren't dumping tea into a river.

I was thinking more like Florida, which according to some theorists will be mostly flooded by the time of the apocalypse.
edit: a city in Florida*

Dare I say it I am fed up of the US cities...go somewhere I know a little closer to home...Cardiff maybe...or OK maybe London would work better.

Either way I am sure it will be a sweet game but I am sure if I ever went to washington or vague the last 2 games would have been a lot more interesting to me full of the oh god I remember that etc...as they stand they are just ruined cites
I got to admit, as someone not from the US, it would be nice to see other parts of the world and how they were affected as well.

Ahh...well you could also do that in my home city of Charleston, SC. We have tons of pirate stuff here. Blackbeard did blockade the city and hold some key citizens for ransom.

I was going to disagree, but then I thought how cool it would be for them to use that Blackbeard event as a major quest or plotpoint.
Kudos to you~

Any Fallout 4 news is good news.
I just really hope it is a launch title for the next-gen.
I can survive the wait for that amount of awesome.
I agree, I don't want to wait but I will, next gen launch would be so awesome, this game would probably be the only way I'd pick up a console on day 1. I also hope we don't just get a "Skyrim With Guns" because that is sorta what happened between Oblivion and FO3. I want FO4 to feel completely like its own game and hopefully be Bethesda's least bugged release to date. It would also be fantastic if Obsidian got to do some of the writing for it or they at least find some writers who understand and respect the Fallout lore.

I am very much looking forward to seeing the Institute. And as much as I would like a fallout game set in Europe or the far East, it has to be set in America really, to keep the 1950's world of tomorrow gone wrong feel, in my opinion of course.

So, here's hoping it's actually post-apocalyptic, unlike the last one.
True dat. NV felt nothing like living in a post-apocalyptic setting, especially with a city like vegas still intacted (somehow).

Oh, and sorry to disappoint obsidian fans, but Bethesda is developing Fallout 4. Deal with it. ;)
And I'm glad. I liked the story of Fallout 3 better than lolimgunnahuntdownthedudethatshotme.
Wait a minute. You liked the "lol I'm gonna follow my dipshit dad for no reason then kill myself for even less of a reason" better than deciding the fate of one of the last power source in the country? Fucking lol.

Oh right because nothing says "fun" like no progress EVER.

And gamers say they're sick of copy-pasted games.
Note: Considering the description I've read of the Institute (incredible leaps in technology and science abound, possibly to a terrible end), it's entirely possible to please both parties--surviving post-nuclear disaster and humanity's progress after the end of the world. Thus, your complaint has already been given a solution.

Unless your problem actually lies in the fact that your perception of what makes the "spirit" of the Fallout series doesn't line up with what Bethesda offers, then I can't help you, sir.

This is why I love Fallout threads on this site.

Hopefully they leave the east coast to Obsidian, and Bethesda can screw up Fallout in the west coast.

Yes so we can have another game where they retcon that seemed to show the break down of the laws of physics (bugs) caused the Apocalypse instead of nuclear war.

Did people forgot that new Vegas was such a buggy mess.

I'm so tired of Bethesda's "New location fuck everything that happened in the last game" notion of story telling. Why not develop your setting a little, hmm? Maybe offer some growth, changing faction dynamics, new threats, old problems resurfacing? It isn't that hard. I don't care about Boston, but I wouldn't mind seeing what happens next in the Capital Wasteland. I would fucking love to see what happens next in the Mohave or just the West Coast, if you get Obsidian to make it again.

Whatever. If it's anything like Skyrim it will probably be disappointing as hell anyway.

Wow, Mass sounds fucking boring. I've never been there but I've never heard of anything really interesting there. And it's so close to D.C. I don't believe it, it's not Fallout without huge landmarks.
The Departed? A lot of the civil rights stuff happened in Massachusetts. Has fuck all to do with Fallout, but stuff did happen there.
True, but it just doesn't seem as...prolific as the others. Vegas with it's bright lights, D.C. with all the history and important buildings. But, it could be really cool, idk.

People seem to forget. Post-apocalyptic means it's after the apocalypse. People have moved on and rebuilt. The series is about the society that emerges after the apocalypse is over, not about the immediate aftermath in which people still are trying to figure out the basics of how to survive.

It sounds nice, there are always better places but this sounds pretty good.

Hopefully the story would be kick ass like Fallout 3 or Fallout.

I hope that they have more/newer gameplay too. I would like the idea of dual wield weapons, low level strength are weapons and pistols and higher the strength you get to dual wield machine guns, swords and other weapons. It would be nice. :D

Bethesda does the old "America is a utopia lost" crap that only appeals to nationalists who post "rallies" to rebel against the liberal government and stockpile guns by the crate-load. At least the old games knew America sucked, and didn't pander to American egos.
Okay... I'm surprised I have to ask this... but do you know what the word "satire" means?

You do realize that exact nationalist fuck-you American ego was completely parodied and made fun wholesale throughout the game? Or did you take this shit seriously as well?

Besides, the shitty America you described in the Fallout universe is completely fictionalized. The America in Fallout 3 on the other hand... People actually thought that way. People still think that way. And every single bit of it was repeatedly punched in the face with a reality check. I don't think '50s idealized American living ever took so many kicks to the nuts.

The "lost utopia" in Fallout 3 is a period of naive American unquestioning loyal citizens ignorant and unaware of the impending doom that they've brought upon themselves.

It's not the Fallout Old World that you know, a valid complaint, but Bethesda sure as fuck wasn't glorifying America with their game like you seem to think.

NOTE: This is all I wanted to point out. I'm not arguing that Bethesda's pre-war America was done better, just that Bethesda wasn't in anyway upholding the "American Way" or some shit.
