I have to believe it's the lack of hype, and I kind of understand. Budgets and whatnot, being what they are, maybe they didn't have the cash to spring on more TV spots or ads on video game websites?

Maybe they had the budget, and were afraid of the hype monster that can usually kill some games or turn the gaming community against them?
Lack of budget ? Are you kidding me? It was all over gaming websites and in England it was on pretty much every advert break on every channel and they sponsored an entire channel's prime time viewing.

I played it as well. Incredibly fun but its Just Cause 1 with more things to do and a bigger island they didnt really fix anything which was wrong with the first game however it was still incredibly fun but I still think Saints Row 2 beats it.
Sorry, yeah, I'm just finding out that it's pretty big in Europe. That's my bad.

Here in the states, we didn't hear a lot about it. At least, I didn't, and I'm all over gaming sites and shows nearly all the time, so it surprised me.
You dont want the hype that it had here in England. Especially the channel it was on. Every advert break it would play it and it just got so incredibly annoying due to the fact I watch it all the time. BTW Im assuming you've completed the game I only played it for an hour or two at my mates house and there was about 5 of us just pissing about so I need to ask is that all the game is about? Dont get me wrong I found it fun but the story really as bad as they say because blowing shit up can only entertain me for a certain amount of time.

Yeah, the hype monster has a history of ruining games for me by building them up too much and then they don't deliver, so maybe I should be thankful indeed.

And no, I'm nowhere near completing the game. There are hundreds of unique locations, thousands of items to collect (for us OCD types), tons of races and other things I've got to do first. I won't actually beat the game until I have everything else completed.

And I've been playing marathons for a couple days now, and I'm finally up to about 40%.

Though, yeah, if you're here for deep, engrossing story,... not so much. Unless you think movies like Commando, Hard Target or Cobra have really dynamic storytelling and character development. _>

Well I thought it would have been because a lot of people didn't like playing it. For example, I have completely stopped playing about 4 hours in. I'm very happy I didn't buy it.
That's your opinion, and that's fine, but the reviews I've seen (that have been knowledgeable and actually gave the game some time to experiment) have been vastly positive. Seems most people actually like it. Not to mention all the sales (especially in Europe) speaks volumes.

But I digress. Your opinion is your opinion, and it's fine to have it. But why didn't you like it?

I wonder why people are into this too. This game doesnt seem to offer anything new. It reminds me of Mercenaries 2 and apparently that was pretty crappy. :[
It's exactly what mercs 2 should have been, without the ability to call in air strikes which kinda sucks.

Just bought it yesterday and I'm having so much fun at the moment, anybody seen that LOST island? Also, was just flying my plane around and I found a massive airship in the sky, which turned out to be the most awesome night club I've ever been to, the was even wielding a shotgun, wtf?

Yeah, the story is bad and the voice acting is pretty laughable, but well worth the $88 I spent for it, just wish I had of pre-ordered for all the extra stuff.

I haven't played it yet, but I found the first one to be quite dull, and the novelty of a giant island wore off as it was all the same. Sure it was 10x the size of San Andreas, but it was all the same square mile of jungle copy pasted. I hope the new one is a bit moe varied.

I just found it boring to play.
Uhm...ok. Good reason, I guess.

The mile High Club is pretty awesome. And apparently, not at all sexist.

You'll see what I mean when you go there.

And the LOST island was one of my favorite missions, just because of the enemies there. But the first time I found it, was by accident. I was just flying along, marveling at how open the world was, even from the beginning, and BOOM! my plane goes all kamikaze.

A very, very cool Easter egg. If you haven't found it, the hatch is there, too. ^_^

Oh, it is. Everything from cities to mountains to snow covered mesas to deserts to jungles to rural towns to the aforementioned flying night club to the huge military installations to oil rigs out in the sea.

That varied enough? lol

And man, from what I keep hearing, I'm kinda glad I never played the first one.

It wasn't that bad. You could still have a fair bit of fun flying about and blowing stuff up. A good weekend rental. There are FAR worse games, and I look on my short time with Just Cause in a fairly good light.

I think it's not receiving too much attention because they didn't do a major marketing push before release, and for that I'm happy. Game companies that spam the likes of gamespot/IGN/XGN with promotional wallpapers, previews and other miscellaneous paraphernalia tend to know their game's gonna suck and just want as many people to buy it on the first day as possible.

Classic Examples: Every Tomb Raider game since number 2, the recent C&C game, Pretty much every Tom Clancy game.

The best games usually fly under the radar. Beyond Good and Evil, Psychonauts are but two examples

Well, perhaps I was a bit hasty. I was mainly going off of what my wife said about it, to be honest.

Though, when I told her about some of the good remarks it was getting here, she told me, "Well, no. I guess it wasn't bad, but the grappling hook sucked so hard compared to part 2."

I think she's just a case of spoiled by the sequel. I may give it a try, just to see. And really, I pretty much dig all sandbox games on some level, so it at least deserves a fair shake and I actually play it.

Just not until I finish this one. >_o

That was kind of my thinking too. And yeah, I'm a fan of the hidden gems.

Here's some more for the list; The Outfit and Earth Defense Force 2017. ^_^

I think it sold quite well and I see a lot of people talking about it on the forums, but yeah it is a really awesome game and everyone should buy it.

I played the first one on the PC and despite enjoying the odd hour or so with it. It was just so damn buggy, game endingly buggy. I once grappled onto a car and zoomed through the car, the earth and I'm guessing the core of my processor as my whole machine just crashed.

So a game you haven't played reminds you of a game you haven't played?

OT: The game was fun, but by god is it repetitive. MMORPG's are not this repetitive. Still, by the time I started to notice I had thrown 20 hours of gameplay into the game, so I can't really complain about it.

Well I'd have it, but I'm holding out for when I get a new PC eventually and can get it through a Steam discount. Big sandbox games are just asking to be played on a PC where modders can flex their muscles for the rest of us to enjoy. Hence the only games I really get on my PS3 anymore are exclusives, thankfully which there are a lot of.

I love this game, and I have no idea why it isn't getting much attention. Unlike others, I loved the original too, the voice acting is so bad it's good and funny, and the gameplay is just so fun to mess around with it keeps me occupied for hours...

The environments are massive, granted but often only the towns are worth exploring. They basically use a jungle/desert wilderness stamp otherwise. That said it was incredibly sweet when i flew a fighter jet into a taking off space shuttle. And that wasn't even an important mission.

Basically very badly controlled sandbox affair with some very awesome moments. I would consider it a renter.

On the LOST island is there anything to do but get the smoke guy to spawn?
I dunno, I just knew about the hatch because I just went there for that one mission so far. I'm working my way around the map, systematically finding/completing everything. I'm cutting a proper swath through this 'tiny island nation'.

Time lapse screenshots of my map would look like a virus has infected. lulz

But if you give me a few minutes, I'll go find out for ya. It's been piquing my interest, too.
