I had pretty much the same experience as you TC. Except I had Tali do the vents. Lateron I found out my game glitched out or something, because my unloyal Miranda survived a situation that she shouldn't have survived (notably the fall after the final boss).
So I was lucky as hell when that happened.

Right now I'm doing a Dice playthrough. Simply rolling a dice whenever a choice comes up. I predict tons of deaths;p

Everyone lived! Everyone was loyal! I was 100% kiss-ass, apart from the mercenary I pushed out of a window. And a few other times involving shooting/injuring people. So yeah, no collector base for me.

And shadow broker gone. Although I had nearly a year's headstart with the 360 version...

about an hour ago, and Everyone survived, I played as Adept, upgraded all ship parts, had everyone's loyalty(Bar Miranda, she got into a fight with Jack) romanced Tali, but romanced Liara in the comic. had Legion go through vents, Jacob lead fire team, then Miranda lead fireteam,Mordin evacuate the crew, then Samara do the Biotic Bubble and had Tali and Garrus on my team the entire time, I have yet to do LOTSB because the crew got kidnapped before I could and I wasn't about to let Scotty- I mean Engineer Donnelly Die. I blew up the base, told TIM to piss off and played about 90% paragon to 10% renegade. So is this me being good at the game or a noob being ridiculously lucky(I didn't use any guides)

I know this just sounds like me bragging but it's not supposed to , so my question is this: how was your 1st playthrough of ME2 and what happened at the end(I.E. who survived, was the collecter base destroyed) and WTF is up with the army of reapers flying through space towards the Milky Way at the end about? why didn't they just go in like that in the original ME and we would have been spared the Terminator-Reaper-prototype thing at the end?
How do you read the comic ?
well in the beginning of the game, after the collecters blow up the Normandy and you die(SPOILERS) the comic should pop up, this is for PS3 ONLY though to compensate for Microsoft owning publishing rights to ME1, if you have 360 or PC versions you'll just have to replay the original and then import.

I was somehow disappointed that I did well enough to keep everyone alive (was expecting some drama in the form of death). I brought forward my soldier from ME1, sticking to his mostly-paragon/sub-renegade approach. Everyone was loyal because I was so charasmatic, and I obviously had all the ship upgrades. Miranda lead both the fire teams, Legion was the techie with Garrus and Samara helping with the valves, Jacob escorted the crew back, Jack kept the bio-bubble up while Mordin and Grunt came with, and Tali and Thane helped me wreck the Reapinator. Kept the base intact, and told Tim to be ready.
Other trivia: That's everyone involved in the mission, and I managed to crash one section by killing all the collectors on one of the lifts too quickly and getting said lift stuck.
Also, why if I romanced with Tali, do I see to her after Thane in the closing cutscenes?

I'll play through a second time on my Fem-Shep once I get her through the first ME (I'd like to keep the council alive this time), but I'll switch her from engineer to Adept.

No I mean they did fix some off the issues from the first. But most of the fixes involved removing the problem completely.

Very first playthrough, I lost Zaeed (I did his loyalty mission as soon as I got him, and didn't have the high paragon)But other than that the squad was fine.

Vents: Legion (A computer vs computer, easy)
Barrier: Jack(Either was good, but I had to go with crazy tattooed psycho)
Fireteams:Garrus, both times(If you have to ask...)
Escort: Zaeed(first time, because i didn't have his loyalty and he pissed me off), Mordin every other time

First time, I also lost some of the crew, I did one too many missions before hand.

I was too busy weeping with joy at the utterly epic magical awesomeness happening on-screen to notice who died.

I sorta failed my balls off.
I had everyone loyal so I thought they would live no matter what...

Mordin went in the vent and got killed, Tali led the fire team and got killed, Miranda held the bubble and got Grunt killed and Jack led the defense and got killed. It was pretty embarrassing.

Second play-through everything went fine though.

Probably not, but that's not what this thread is about, is it?

First playthrough...

Handed Legion over to the Illusive man
Ship was fully upgraded
Everyone was loyal
Had the renegade fling with Jack
No parmour, pined after Ashley
Tali went through the ducts
Garrus lead the second team
Miranda made the biotic bubble
Jack died
Garrus lead the 2 squad again
Took Zaeed and Miranda to tackle the reaper
Mordin Solus randomly died
Everyone else got away :D

I only lost Thane on my first playthrough, I interpreted the tunnels as a stealth part, despite Miranda saying "We need to send a tech expert" right before the choice. Dur. Garrus lead both teams, he is my 2nd in command damn it! Every time Miranda butts her stupid face into a conversation and claims to be my 2nd I just want a renegade interrupt to appear that makes Sheppard slap her and say "Get that weak ass shit outa here! Clothes don't work that way!" Jack kept the bubble up, and I took OGs Garrus and Tali with me to fight the boss. Most will agree with you that a human reaper is completely retarded.

Don't worry, Miranda is a ***** anyway.
She sure was a *****. The only thing I missed about her was that ass... ;P
Really, guys? I always took her as a gender-opposite expy of Lex Luther or Talia Al-Ghul from the DCU: insanely overshadowed by their fathers/predecessors; so much so that they feel that their successes (& hell, their existences, most of the time...) are due to propagation of the "lessons learned" from the type(s) of upbringing and indoctrination in their lives, at the hands of their fathers, from birth. If you go by this, it's simple to see why Miranda tends to have a cynical, snarky, and (most importantly) pragmatic view on the way things really work, and get done, in the Mass Effect universe. If anything, Miranda adds a "safe" amount of cynicism/pragmatism from the "[a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism"]idealism vs. cynicism scale[/a]".

OTOH, I CAN'T STAND Jack... OK, yes she was (basically) abducted, forcibly imbued with cybernetics/biotics, and further subjected to unethical, immoral, and heinous experiments. Yes, she has a reasonable aversion to hang around and work with/under organizations and individuals that have no problem working in the moral grey/black (see: Miranda Lawson) for the "general good". Yes, she has a crapload of emotional/psychological wangst still haunting you from your past... but... this practically all we see of Jack's character. It defines her character, instead of being a part of a larger, and more realistic, psyche. She spends most, if not all of her time, trying to be the angsty Mary Sue. And if someone wants to take a course of action in a situation that isn't the most "white knight"-ish behavior, she has a conniption.

On-Topic: I've had a not-so-great first playthrough myself. Both Tali & Kasumi bit the big one, with Tali being overrun in the vents (weird move in hindsight, I know) & Kasumi being curbstomped on the escort run. And before anyone asks: Yep, got all Normandy upgrades, all loyal except Jack, about 60/40 split on Paragon/Renegade, & 'xploded the Collector base. It's a shame, the two female characters w/ character designs I probably liked the most got deaded while the one I reviled lived (screw u Jack... seriously, GTFO already). No win for me!?! :(

Huh, interesting. I used a completely different team at the end and I also completed all loyalty missions. For the vents I had Tali handle that, fireteam 1 I believe I put Garrus in charge and I think Miranda the second time around. For the biotic bubble I used Samara. I sent Grunt back with the escorts and had Legion and and I think jack with me (although I might have swapped in Garrus later on, I forget now).

I'll just say this: RIP Mordin and Miranda. Miranda's loyalty had been screwed up by the argument with Jack, no idea what happened with Mordin.

Sir, you're doing it wrong. Go back and play as a Vanguard. We all know the real Shepard is one.

Anyway, glad to hear you enjoyed your first time playing the game. And glad to hear it went well. Mordin died my first time so I reloaded an older save and didn't send him through the vents that time.

You know what, I don't hear enough people talking about the Engineers. I wish they had more dialogue, I loved them.

The bit about the Reapers flying through space:
1) You should really find a way to play the first game.

but if you can't...
The plot of the first game had the rogue turian spectre Saren trying to help a Reaper (called Sovereign) find a Mass Relay called the conduit. The conduit would take them directly to the citadel station. Saren and Sovereign reached the citadel and attempted to send a signal to the rest of the Reapers that would alert them that the invasion was on go. Shepard stopped this from happening, so the Reapers are left with a plan B.

First playthrough, mostly Paragon, everyone lived and I kept the base.

I felt kind of hard done by with that, I mean the call is really a 50/50 call and rests on whether you trust the Illusive Man or not. However if you keep the base your crew seems to think you've made a bad decision - even Miranda who's an Illusive Man lapdog. I mean sure, if he wanted to build his own Reaper I'd have blown it up, (which was unlikely given what it seemingly took to make a reaper,) but what he was suggesting was more reverse engineering what was there to find out what made the Reapers tick - considering that the Reapers are still pretty much a mystery I don't see how that's a bad idea. Like I said, 50/50 call, either you try to see if you can use the technology to enter the fight with an advantage and risk the technology biting you in the arse or you choose to go in blind. A good military decision would be to gather all the intel you could.
