This is something I've been thinking about for a little while now. What if games that have player-versus-player had some kind of "Just For Fun" mode where you play however you want without any consequences like wins/losses on a permanent record, and not even a victory screen?
Sometimes people can get really competitive, and when there's any kind of indication of winning or losing it can sometimes drive people to get really angry at one another. I know my friend and I are really competitive when it comes to Smash Bros Brawl (about the only multiplayer game that either of us owns or is any good at). We're so competitive that we restrict all the levels to like a measely 6 or 7, and turn off all items just so we can't ragequit when a bomb spawns right in our face and randomly inflicts change in the game.
But if there was no way of telling who was winning or who was losing we could probably toss in a bunch of AI characters, put the good ol' Smash Balls and other items back into the game and play on levels we'd never play in.
Now I'm not saying to get rid of competition altogether, I'm just thinking for certain games you could have a separate way to play the game without forcing it to be super-balanced and without having at least one person say "Let's play something else".
What do you guys think?
