Happens to me every console generation or two. To keep peace in the family, I have to skinny down on the consoles/etc. I have as another approaches. Gen 9 approaches. I don't know if I could have gotten anything for them but would rather give to friends and neighbors, so, some lucky kids got 2 PS2 slims and 2 Gamecubes with all sorts of cables, games, controllers, memory cards (lol, remember when those were a thing!??!). They were just stored away or gathering dust. Hope the kids get some use out of them. I cannot imagine getting rid of my PS3s. Ever. They play like slightly slower PS4s with uglier graphics but still fine for gaming. The Bluray player in them are great for playing movies.

About the 1st time I did this was giving a Commodore 64 and fixings to some kids in the neighborhood as I had the NES. Traded the NES for the SNES. So, sometimes you can get stuff for your old stuff.

Do you slim down on what you have? Always sell? Ever just throw away functioning stuff? Or are you a collector and NEVER surrender your stuff?

Usually tend to sell on or give old consoles to younger generation so far. Except last ps4 had to leave at old place due to having one day to grab stuff and get out and very far away in one journey whilst no-one else was there. It had dodgy HDMI output, so no huge loss apart from maybe the witcher 3 newgame+ save file stuck in its HDD I'll probably never be arsed to put the time in to do again on separate console without long-term sectioning under the MHC act.

I mean there's only me and the sibling in Canada land. And we don't have similar tastes in consoles, so whatever we want we just buy for ourselves.
And Im not a collector; if its broken I'll toss it, but if not goes in a box in the closet.

Not a collector, but I don't do away with my stuff. Tho aside from my Switch, all my consoles and games are in storage. Having a halfway decent gaming PC means I can emulate the majority of them anyway. But I do like keeping the oldtimers around, because it doesn't feel right to emulate without having a legit copy.

I still have most of mine. Although I really wonder if I should get rid of my Xbox 360 when this pandemic ends. Like I legit haven't touched it in years. The only thing on it that I haven't played, but want to, is Tales of Vesperia, and there are other ways to play it these days.

I did leave my retro consoles back at home when I moved, though, because my younger brother prefers the "authentic experience" and actually does play them from time to time.

Nope. I don't have any extra consoles, just extra controllers, so I only have what I need. As such, I don't see any major reason to give them away or sell them. Though, if Nintendo would just put Star Fox Zero on the Switch, then I'd sell my Wii U. I don't even really sell games any more either. I used to do that to afford new ones, but now that I can afford any game I wanna get, I'm finally building a proper collection.

my younger brother prefers the "authentic experience"
I'm right there with him. I don't like emulating, personally, unless it's for a really interesting mod like Ocarina of Time Randomized. I used to, but these days I like to play games on the proper system. I have an old school TV for my older consoles for that reason

So much is becoming BC for Xbox. I have dozens of 360 and even Xbox OG games from a combo of loading them from disc onto my XB1 or from Gold. Do you have a Gen 8 console? Would you play a gen 7 game on one or you've just moved past it? Maybe an enhanced gen 7 game on gen 8 console?

EDIT: Tales of Vesperia still cost $50 on Steam! There's got to be a less expensive way to play this!

I'm too scared to get rid of this stuff to be honest, mostly because its getting rarer and more expensive to find things. I still have older consoles that still work and that's fine with me. It also doesn't help that I actually have a rare game collection on top of that. I guess I am too much of a collector to get rid of stuff.

This why we should have backwards compatibility. It would be nice to have a newer system that plays everything without losing any part of gaming history. But yeah that's a topic for a different thread so I digress.

There is no thread specifically about BC anytime recently in this forum. I encourage you to start one. I would happily contribute.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
If I get something else that can play the games I have for a console then I can sell the console, if not then I tend to hang onto it. Like I'll never sell my psp since it has RType Command and 'Jean De Arc' and I love those games even though I probably won't ever play them again.

My PS2 is still gathering dust somewhere. I used to take it out for a spin every now and then, but I don't think I have a TV in the house with video input anymore. Also I find using an emulator to be more convenient when I have a hankering for some PS2 games. It was definitely a pain in the ass to play emulated Ace Combat 5 without pressure sensitive buttons for radar zoom and it made the whole lead a plane through the AA guns mission a pain in the ass. Emulator save states also help me get past some older game design choices that I'm not so comfortable with or don't really have as much time for.

I don't think I can find any kids to offload these to, and I'm not sure if I'll find kids that will want it. My young cousins are all about smartphones and tablets. And they grew up being used to better graphics. Most parents(well the Asian families I have access to anyway) won't really appreciate these sorta gifts for their kids.

The PS2 is the only console I own, though my brother bought a PS3 at some point and has offloaded it to my place. I just can't be arsed to make use of it and he doesn't have many games for it anyway - only ever using it to play stuff like FIFA. I did entertain the idea of getting the PS3 family of Atelier games for it, but those got ported over to PC. And the PS3 versions are the lousier editions of the game anyway whereas the PC ports are of the enhanced extended Vita versions.

I probably won't ever get rid of my PS2. I still have my previous old laptops sitting around somewhere. Probably still filled with horrible porn and random anime episodes from what I happened to be watching weekly. I did entertain the idea of discombobulating them and turning their screens into makeshift extra monitors but I know I'll never bother to actually do it.

I sold a couple of games for the Super Nintendo once when I was 6. I've regretted it ever since.
Mine is worse, I sold my entire collection of PS2 games to try and buy a PS3(didn't even end up having enough anyway). Only a few of the absolute, top favorites (Burnout 3, Mercenaries 1, fucking BLACK for some reason) escaped. Goddamn was I a stupid fucking kid.
