Look at this-
This is the main character from the upcoming Fallout New Vegas, The California Ranger.

Now Look at this-

This is a Character from Gone with the Blastwave. A web comic first published in 2005. Notice any similarities?
Just a few! The Fallout Ranger Is almost Identical to the Blastwave Character. Only difference is instead of having a red stripe on his helmet, the Ranger has red goggles! They even both have the little radio antenna on their shoulder!

You do know that helmets are not exactly the height of customisation right? Goggles go where the eyes are, breather where the mouth is and radio where the ears are. Coincidence.

This is from the Anime Movie Jin-Roh. It was released in 1999. This is where they've got it all from.

Every game ever has had people with gas masks, goggles, and helmets.

I'm hoping this is a joke because they don't look anything alike.

This.

aside:Oh my, the helmet of the California Rangers are PERFECT to roleplay a Kerberos Panzer Cop. I wonder if wearing them gives the graphics a red filter?

They're both gas masks...that's where the similarities end. They really look nothing alike.

See Killzone, Final Fantasy 13, FEAR, Prototype & Half-life for further examples of masked militans.
Pretty much this.

There are people in Gas Masks in basically every game. Killzone, FEAR, Half Life, hell even Halo 3 had a helmet that looks like Killzone's Helghast.

You do realize there's only so many different ways you can do the helmet and gas mask thing, right? Besides I notice a number of distinct differences. 1. the eyes are shaped differently. 2. The overall mask is shaped differently, the New Vegas one fits much closer to the face and the filters aren't as prominent 3. The New Vegas helmet has a slight brim on it.

Gas-masks and goggles have been around for a long long time. Heck, as far as gas-masked characters go these two are quite different, different colors, helmet shape, filter position and shape... They're quite different.

I can see where the OP is comming from, that 'organic plating' style directly covering the nose and mouth is unusual and is on both, but I have to agree with most of the others: it's a gas mask and a helmet. You can't really change them too much.

The NCR Soldier isn't the main character, what made you come to that conclusion? You're a courier who:

Gets shot in the head for whatever he was holding. But revived by a robot and a doctor.
